NFL Week 9 Match Ups

The big game on tap for this week has the 5-2 Dallas Cowboys visiting the 5-2 Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night in a NFC East showdown with 1st place in the division on the line. This one should come down which QB, Tony Romo or Donovan McNabb has the biggest night. Some other key match ups include Baltimore at Cincinnati, Houston at Indianapolis, and a great Monday night tilt between the Steelers and the Broncos at Mile High.

Here is a brief look at all the match ups with some keys to the game.

Sunday, Nov. 8

(Byes: Buffalo, Cleveland, Minnesota, N.Y. Jets, Oakland, St. Louis)

Washington Redskins at Atlanta Falcons, 1 p.m.

Atlanta’s loss to the Saints put them three games back in the division and 4-3 on the year, so this game becomes crucial to keep them in the chase for a wildcard spot.

Arizona Cardinals at Chicago Bears, 1 p.m.

While the Bears are 1-3 on the road they play like a different team at home. In their three wins at Soldier Field they have won by an average of 17 points.

Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals, 1 p.m.

The Bengals have actually won seven out of the last ten games between these two. Baltimore is 4-0 when they run the ball at least 50% of the time.

Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts, 1 p.m.

The Texans 5-3 start is the best in franchise history. The Colts have started 7-0 for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Peyton Manning is a perfect 7-0 against Houston at home.

Kansas City Chiefs at Jacksonville Jaguars, 1 p.m.

With RB Larry Johnson still out of the lineup, serving a one game suspension, the Chiefs will have to rely on Jamaal Charles to carry the load against a Jaguar’s team that is ranked 25th against the run.

Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots, 1 p.m.

Veteran Miami LB/DE Jason Taylor is back in top form as he has 5 ½ sacks, two forced fumbles, and one TD. His ability to put pressure on Patriot QB Tom Brady will be crucial for the Dolphins have any chance of an upset.

Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1 p.m.

First round pick, QB Josh Freeman makes his NFL debut this week for the Buccaneers. He will face a Packer’s defense that is ranked 9th against the pass and 4th overall.

Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints, 4:05 p.m.

The Saints have a seven game home losing streak against the Panthers. Carolina will have to find a way to effectively run the ball against New Orleans to keep Drew Brees on the sidelines for as long as possible.

Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks, 4:05 p.m.

At 2-5 the Seahawks cannot afford too many more losses if they have any hope of reaching the post season. Detroit is giving up close to 30 points a game, second worse in the NFL.

San Diego Chargers at New York Giants, 4:15 p.m.

The Giants have been outscored 61-112 in their last three games. Despite losing their last three, New York’s defense is still ranked 3rd overall and their offense is ranked 5th.

Tennessee Titans at San Francisco 49ers, 4:15 p.m.

The Titans will look to hand the ball off to RB Chris Johnson as much as possible after he burned Jacksonville with 228 yards on the ground last week. Despite a 3-4 record, the 49ers are only one game out of first in the NFC West.

Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles, 8:20 p.m.

Jason Witten could be the key to a Dallas win as the Eagles have had trouble containing tight ends all season long. Philadelphia’s defense has 21 take-a-ways so far this year.

Monday, Nov. 9

Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos, 8:30 p.m.

The Steelers have given up three TD’s on special teams in the last four games. Denver’s top ranked defense is 3rd against the run, but 8th against the pass.

Heading into this week, there are eleven teams with 5 or more wins and 8 teams with two or less. So much for parity in the NFL.
