NFL Preseason Predictions- Week 3

As we head into the third week of the 2010 NFL preseason we have now had a good look at all 32 NFL teams in action. There are a couple of teams that obviously need the next two weeks to try and correct some early season mistakes and there are a few teams that appear ready to start the regular season right now.

Let’s take a look at some of the more intriguing match ups where a solid performance this week could go a long way toward figuring out the whether these teams are contenders or pretenders.

Thursday Aug. 26, 8 p.m. (ET)

Week 3 Preseason Indianapolis @ Green Bay (-3 ½ )
Week 3 Preseason Over/Under Line 44 ½

The third preseason game is when traditionally the starters will see the most action as this game is their final prep before the start of the regular season. This game should be all about the quarterbacks with Peyton Manning leading the Colts and Aaron Rodgers at the helm for the Packers. In limited action both have looked solid, especially Rodgers who has completed 20 of 24 attempts for 275 yards and three TD’s.

Rodgers should provide a good test for an Indianapolis secondary that has already lost four players for the season due to injury. The only veteran player to go down was S Jamie Silva, but depth in the defensive backfield could still be a concern.

Manning will have the opportunity to try and move the Colts offense against one of the better defenses in the league. He will have to do it without one of his favorite receivers; TE Dallas Clark, who is still recovering from an earlier leg injury.

The Pick – Packers and OVER.

Friday Aug. 27, 8 p.m. (ET)

Week 3 Preseason San Diego @ New Orleans (-3 )
Week 3 Preseason Over/Under Line 42 ½

In a battle between two more teams with top notch quarterbacks, you can expect an aerial show in this game as well. So far this preseason San Diego QB Philip Rivers has only thrown 21 passes but he has completed 15 of them for 187 yards and one TD.

The biggest hole in the Chargers offense is the absence of their leading receiver Vincent Jackson, who is holding out in a contract dispute. With each passing day it looks more and more like his playing days in San Diego could be over.

New Orleans QB Drew Brees is picking up where he left off in last year’s Super Bowl. While he has only completed 14 of 23 passes for 91 yards in the first two games, expect Head Coach Sean Payton to loosen things up a bit in this game as the Saints begin preparation for their opening day showdown with Minnesota two weeks from Thursday.

The Pick – Saints and OVER.

Saturday Aug. 28, 8 p.m. (ET)

Week 3 Preseason Dallas @ Houston (-3 )
Week 3 Preseason Over/Under Line 40 ½

The battle for Texas bragging rights pits two teams that have extremely high aspirations for themselves heading into this season. The Cowboys would love nothing better than play at home in this year’s Super Bowl while the Texans believe they have a team that can actually compete with the Colts in the AFC South.

In the first three games this preseason, Dallas quarterback Tony Romo has had no problem leading his team downfield but has struggled at getting them into the end zone. While it is far too early to panic, a top priority in this game for the first team offense will be to score a few touchdowns.

Houston QB Matt Schaub has looked sharp in limited action so far. He is 13 of 16 for 195 yards and one TD. The league’s top receiver Andre Johnson has caught five balls for 74 yards and one TD. You can expect a heavy dose of this duo the first half of this game as the Texans are still struggling to find a consistent running game.

The Pick – Texans and the OVER.
