Houston will try and avoid being the second team from Texas to lose a game in our Nation’s Capitol this season when they take on the Redskins in a late start on Sunday afternoon.

Both these teams are coming off stunning upset victories in Week 1. Houston finally defeated its long time nemesis Indianapolis in an impressive 34-24 win as a 2 ½ point home underdog. The total in this game easily went ‘over’ the 47 point line. Washington made the most of a couple of crucial Dallas mistakes to bang out a 13-7 win over the bitter NFC East rival Cowboys. The Redskins were a four point home dog and the total stayed way ‘under’ the 40 ½ point total.

The amazing stat about the Texans win was the way they were able to run the ball right down the throats of the Colts. Long known as a passing team with QB Matt Schaub and WR Andre Johnson, Houston put the ball into the hands of second year back Arian Foster, who ran for 231 yards on 33 carries and scored three TD’s. This added dimension suddenly makes the Texans’ offense one of the scariest in the league.

Behind their new starting QB Donovan McNabb, Washington was able to effectively move the ball against the Cowboys even though this did not necessarily translate to points on the board. McNabb completed 17-of-32  attempts for 172 yards but also showed he still has the ability to pick up yards with his feet with a nifty 17 yard scramble to keep a first quarter drive alive. The Redskins will have to do a better job at running the ball this week after Dallas held Clinton Portis to 63 yards on 18 carries. NFL Betting

Houston is 6-4 straight up in its last 10 games but just 3-6-1 against the spread. The Texans are 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS in their last five games on the road. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of their last six games, but the ‘under’ is 9-1-1 in their last 11 games on the road.

Washington is 4-6 SU in its last 10 games and 5-4-1 ATS. The Redskins are 2-4 SU and 3-3 ATS in their last six home games. The total has been evenly split at 5-5 in their last 10 games, but has stayed ‘under’ in 12 of their previous 16 home games.

The last time these two teams met was in 2006 with Washington getting the 31-15 victory as a 3 ½ point road favorite. They only met one other time in the brief history of the Texans’ franchise.

It is hard to discount how dominating Houston looked in last week’s win over the Colts, while the Redskins win was more a product of numerous Cowboy mistakes. Combining a new found balance on offense that was never present in the past and a solid defense, the Texans roll past Washington to open the season 2-0.

The Pick: Houston -3
