2009 Outback Bowl
2009 Outback Bowl Iowa vs. South Carolina Preview
The Iowa Hawkeyes beat a lot of good teams this year, while the South Carolina Gamecocks seemed to lose to a lot of good teams. What does that mean January 1 when they meet at Raymond James Stadium in the Outback Bowl?
Oddsmakers currently have the Hawkeyes listed as 3½-point favorites versus the Gamecocks, while the game’s total is sitting at 43. Â
Iowa is 8-4 SU, 7-4 ATS  and South Carolina is 7-5 SU, 5-5-1 ATSÂ
The Outback Bowl is a New Year’s Day college football game matching teams from the SEC and Big Ten Conference (3rd pick from each). Â The game kicks off at 11 A.M. on New Year’s Day.
After a loss at Illinois dropped Coach Kirk Ferentz’ squad to 5-4, Iowa upset then No. 3 Penn State, 24-23 on home town kicker Daniel Murray’s last-second, 31-yard field goal. After beating Purdue, Iowa destroyed Minnesota, to get into the Outback bowl.
In his fourth season as head coach Steve Spurrier has finally guided his team to a New Year’s Day bowl game. The Gamecocks finished the season with a 50-point loss at Florida, followed by a 17-point loss at Clemson however, so don’t get your hopes up to high.
This bout marks the first-ever meeting between Iowa and South Carolina. Â The matchup in my eye will be the SEC speed or the Big Ten toughness that prevails, fans will find out Thursday.
