Event: UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn 2
Date: August 28, 2010
Time: 10PM ET/7PM PT
Location: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
Broadcast: Pay-per-view

Main Card:

Frankie Edgar (12-1): +250
BJ Penn (15-6-1): -350

BJ Penn had an excuse for his loss against Edgar – surprise!!!! Penn was apparently battling a sinus infection and didn’t feel himself. Expect a more focused BJ in this fight. He will not be bullied around like in the first fight. Pick: BJ Penn -350

Randy Couture (18-10): -700
James Toney (0-0): +450

This fight could get very ugly very fast. However I trust that the class of randy Couture will win out and he will put Toney out of his misery in quick fashion. MMA athletes are indeed better trained than Boxers! Pick: Randy Couture -700

Demian Maia (12-2): -200
Mario Miranda(12-1): +160

Maia is still one of the best fighters on the planet despite what Anderson Silva made him look like at UFC 112. He’s motivated to get back to the top of the heap and Miranda appears to only be a speed bump. Look for the most dangerous submission specialist to end this fight in the second round. Pick: Demian Maia -200

Kenny Florian (15-4): -260
Gray Maynard (10-0-0-1): +130

This is a battle to determine the next challenger for the Lightweight belt. Maynard is good, but Florian is great. As one of the most well rounded fighters in MMA, Florian should be able to neutralize Maynard’s wrestling and pick him apart with his technical striking, his Muay Thai training and his dominant submission game. Pick: Kenny Florian -260

Marcus Davis (22-7): +165
Nate Diaz (12-5): -210

Nate Diaz was born to fight –  it is written all over his face. He takes a huge reach advantage into this fight and that might be the difference. If he can take advantage of Davis’s poor defense, Diaz will beat Davis up with the jab, punish him in the clinch and dominate him on the ground. Pick: Nate Diaz -210 Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Spike TV Card:

Nik Lentz (20-3-2): +125
Andre Winner (12-3-1): -155

The Ultimate Fighter 9”alum Andre Winner meets well rounded Nik Lentz in Lightweight action. While Winner appears as if his skills have peaked, Lentz, who hasn’t lost in three years keeps getting better.  Lentz will be the Winner in this one! Pick: Nik Lentz +125

Gabe Reudiger (17-5): +265
Joe Lauzon (18-5): -335

Joe Lauzon fights in front of a home town crowd against veteran Gabe Reudiger. Reudiger is back in the UFC after four years away – a stint that saw him become WEC Lightweight champion. Reudiger is currently on a six fight win streak and I think he upsets the young and hungry Lauzon. Pick: Gabe Reudiger +265

Preliminary Card:

Will Not Be Broadcast

Dan Miller (11-4): -280
John Salter (5-1): +220

Dan Miller has a lot to fight for on Saturday night. He has lost his last three fights (albeit to Sonnen, Maia and Bisping) and needs a win to ensure his place in the UFC going forward. Slater is an impressive up and coming former wrestler but I like Miller to draw upon his experience and live another day. Pick: Dan Miller -280

Nick Osipczak (5-2):-145
Greg Soto (7-1): +125

Nick Osipczak is a “The Ultimate Fighter” alum who has looked pretty good in his UFC career. The one knock on him is his questionable cardio which is in sharp contrast to Greg Soto. Soto’s wrestling, jiu-jitsu training and especially his relentless work ethic will be a bit too much for Osipczak to handle in this bout. Pick the upset! Pick: Greg Soto +125

Amilcar Alves (11-1): +220
Mike Pierce (10-3): -280

Dangerous Judo practitioner Amilcar Alves makes his UFC debut against experienced veteran Mike Pierce. Pierce is tough as nails and should prove to be a poor welcoming committee.

Pick: Mike Pierce -280
