NFL Week 7 Fantasy Football Tips

This is our waiver wire pick-ups column. The staff will scour the free agent pools in fantasy land for the best available talent every week. Availability, of course, depends on the league. We’re using 12 team, 15 roster spot leagues as the median, but we’ll look for roster candidates for leagues of all shapes and sizes. Grab the following before NFL Week 7.

After all of the weekly games are finished be sure to check our cheatsheets, a who’s hot, and who’s not report plus more in our fantasy football guide. Without wasting any more of your time, here is the Week 7 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickup List, for the NFL games going on this week (Week 7). Good Luck!!!

QUARTERBACKS

1. Brad Johnson, Cowboys
Tony Romo is expected to miss the next four games with broken pinkie. The Cowboys face St. Louis this week so Johnson is useful immediately. Johnson should be the top free agent QB target this week.

2. Derek Anderson, Vikings
He just took down the top rated Giants Defense on Monday night football, to the tune of 310 yards and a couple TD’s. If he’s been dumped in your league, like he has in some of mine, scoop him up quick. Looks like him and Edwards are back on the same page. This win could jump start the good times back in Cleveland. They’re not out of the AFC north yet.

3. Matt Ryan, Falcons
This kid is the real deal, and I still can’t believe KC passed on him in the 2008 NFL draft. What a pass to Mike Jenkins with under 20 seconds on the clock to get Elam into FG range for the game winner vs. the Bears in Week 3. Stash him on your bench, you may need him come playoff time.

RUNNING BACKS

1. Warrick Dunn, Buccaneers
3 straight performances with 80+ yards, capped off by a 133-yard effort on Sunday against the Panthers. Dunn merits a roster spot in all leagues

2. Dominic Rhodes, Colts
Rhodes recorded 73 yards and a touchdown against a vaunted Ravens defense after Addai went down on Sunday. Monitor Addai’s status this week, although Dungy has already said he thinks Addai will be fine.

WIDE RECEIVERS

1. Devin Hester, Bears
Hester is shaping up to be a WR you can consider starting each week. On tap in Week 7 the Bears get the Vikings, and Hester had an 89-yard punt return and an 81-yard touchdown reception last time against the Vikings. Grab him now.

2. Kevin Walter, Texans
Walter bounced back against the Dolphins in Week 6 with four receptions for 98 yards. The Texans have three good matchups on the horizon. The Lions this week, followed by the Bengals and Vikings. Grab him and feel good about starting him as a WR 2 this week.

3. Malcolm Floyd, Chargers
With Chambers out vs. The Pats, Floyd ended up catching three passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Monitor this week’s San Diego papers and if Chambers won’t be ready to go, grab Floyd.

4. Justin Gage, Titans
Gage has been out of action for the past couple weeks as he missed Week 5 with an injury and Week 6 because of the bye week. KC is the opponent in Week 7, and they give up a ton of yardage in the passing game, plus Gage is Collins’ fav target, so get him while he’s available.

TIGHT ENDS

1. Vernon Davis, 49ers
Had a six reception game for 75 yards vs. The Eagles in week 6. If Davis can even get 4-6 looks per game, it would make him worthy of a roster spot, though should be kept on the bench until he becomes more consistent.

D/ST

1. Houston Texans
Get the Lions in Week 7. Have you seen the Lions? Their QB Orlovsky likes to run out of the end zone. Bonehead! Start the Texans D as my sleeper D/ST of Week 7.
