Week 5 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

Week 5 NFL waiver wire plus fantasy football lineup tips to help decide who to start or bench on your fantasy football team…

WAIVER WIRE WEEK 5

This is our waiver wire pick-ups column. Dave B scours the free agent pools in fantasy land for the best available talent every week. Availability, of course, depends on the league. We’re using 12 team, 15 roster spot leagues as the median, but we’ll look for roster candidates for leagues of all shapes and sizes.

After all of the weekly games are finished be sure to check our cheatsheets, a who’s hot, and who’s not report plus more in our fantasy football guide.

Week 5 is upon us and with it brings more byes. Injuries have paved the way for a few players on the Waiver Wire this week so take a look and good luck finding that one hidden gem that may just lead you to a Fantasy Championship.

QBs

Kevin Kolb – Philadelphia Eagles – For those of you who dropped him, it is now time to pick him up once again! Mike Vick has rib issues and that injury has been known to keep players out 2-4 weeks. Heck, Kolb may even win back his starting job.

Shaun Hill – Detroit Lions – I`m not sayin, but I`m just sayin! Hill threw for 331 yards against arguably one of the most dominating defences in the NFL in Week 4.

Bruce Gradkowski – Oakland Raiders – He is performing very well from a Fantasy standpoint! As long as his team is trailing in games (more often than not), he will continue to throw. As long as his running backs gain 80 yards through the air (Darren McFadden), he won`t hurt you.

Others to Monitor: Max Hall – Arizona Cardinals, Sam Bradford – St. Louis Rams

RBs

Mike Tolbert – San Diego Chargers – Even if Ryan Matthews comes back 100% from injury and who knows when that will be, Tolbert could be the most valuable handcuff in the game. He had 100 yards and a touchdown in Week 4.

Ryan Torain – Washington Redskins – Surprise! Clinton Portis is hurting. Torain has stepped in and has made an immediate impact. He got 18 carries against Philadelphia, rumbled for 70 yards and a touchdown. He is probably the biggest name on the Wire this week.

Michael Bush – Oakland Raiders – The Raiders are looking better this season and the offense is a big reason why. Now comes word that Darren McFadden may miss time with an injury. Enter Michael Bush who himself returned from injury and is maybe the better overall talent in the Raiders backfield. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Other to Monitor: Benjarvus Green-Ellis – New England Patriots

WRs

Davone Bess – Miami Dolphins – Bess clearly has the trust of Chad Henne who is throwing the ball more than ever. It appears as though he is good for a minimum five catches per game with potential for higher every week.

Brandon Stokley – Seattle Seahawks – Stokley is as reliable a receiver as there is in Seattle. Matt Hasselbeck has been missing a Bobby Engram figure in the offense and Stokley fills that role.

Mike Thomas – Jacksonville Jaguars – Mike Sims-Walker has been utterly invisible this season. Thomas has emerged as David Gerrard’s favourite target. It’s not saying much, but it’s saying something.

TEs

Brandon Pettigrew – Detroit Lions – Pettigrew has at least six catches in each of his last three games, averaging 81 yards in those games. No touchdowns yet, but they will come.

Ben Watson – Cleveland Browns – Watson has 18 catches for 185 yards and a touchdown so far this season. He is the most productive receiver on the Browns so far and shows no signs of slowing down.

Defense

Carolina Panthers – They actually looked pretty good last week against the Saints. They play Chicago this week and we all saw what the Giants were able to do with the Bears offensive line on Sunday! Also, Jay Cutler may sit due to a concussion.

St. Louis Rams – Ya, I know, but the stats don’t lie! They have been averaging over two sacks per game and are creating turnovers at the same time. Also the Rams have allowed just 13 points per game and have Detroit up next.
