With Week 3 almost in the books, it was difficult to shorten the list of Studs. There were some amazing offensive performances this week at every position. Quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers all showed up in Week 3 and put up some huge numbers.

Unfortunately there was a fair share of Duds as well.

Take a look at Dave B’s Week 3 Studs and Duds and let me know if I missed one.

Studs of the Week:

Adrian Peterson – Minnesota Vikings – Peterson has been on a mission all season long and kept up his amazing play in Week 3. 160 yards rushing with two touchdowns and five catches for 30 yards probably resulted in victory for his owners this week.

Anquan Boldin – Baltimore Ravens – What? 8 catches, 142 yards and three touchdowns? Absolutely stellar numbers and totally worthy of Stud of the Week honours.

Other Studs:

QBs

Michael Vick – Philadelphia Eagles – I hope you are enjoying your time on the bench Mr. Kolb. 291 yards passing and three touchdowns combined with 30 rushing yards and a touchdown has Vick cemented as the Philadelphia starting quarterback.

Peyton Manning – Indianapolis Colts – Ho-hum! Another 325 yards passing and three touchdowns! Manning is the early favourite for the MVP award – hands down!

Philip Rivers – San Diego Chargers – The Chargers lost the game but from a Fantasy perspective, there’s no denying Rivers his due. 455 yards passing with two touchdowns is an enormous Fantasy day.

Honourable Mention: Kyle Orton – Denver Broncos, Drew Brees  – New Orleans Saints, Tom Brady – New England Patriots, Joe Flacco – Baltimore Ravens, Chad Henne – Miami Dolphins, Mark Sanchez – NY Jets

RBs

Chris Johnson – Tennessee Titans – Welcome back to the Stud column Mr. Johnson! 125 yards and two touchdowns on enemy turf is Studly indeed.

Peyton Hillis – Cleveland Browns – I am not sure how many started him this week, but if he was on your bench I feel sorry for you. 144 yards rushing and a touchdown combined with 36 yards on seven receptions are very good indeed.

Rashard Mendenhall – Pittsburgh Steelers – 19 carries, 143 yards and a touchdown have Mendenhall as one of the hottest players in the NFL.

Honourable Mention: Michael Turner – Atlanta Falcons

WRs

Austin Collie – Indianapolis Colts – Wow! 12 catches, 171 yards and two touchdowns. It is clear that Collie has caught Peyton’s eye.

Lance Moore – New Orleans Saints – Another surprise Stud! He had six catches, 149 yards and two touchdowns have him in the Stud column for the first time this season. Hey, once is better than never!

Roy Williams – Dallas Cowboys – Much maligned and rightfully so! Roy had his best game is an eternity with five catches, 117 yards and two touchdowns. Enjoy it Mr. Williams – you’ll likely be a Dud next week!

Honourable Mention: Brandon Marshall – Miami Dolphins , Brandon Lloyd – Denver Broncos, DeSean Jackson – Philadelphia Eagles, Jabar Gaffney – Denver Broncos, Santana Moss – Washington Redskins, Tony Gonzalez – Atlanta Falcons, Dustin Keller – NY Jets

Dud of the Week:

David Gerrard – Jacksonville Jaguars – How long before Gerrard is benched? 13 completions on 30 attempts for 105 yards passing zero interceptions and an interception = BAAAAD!

Other Duds:

QBs

Brett Favre – Minnesota Vikings – I love picking on Favre but he’s making it easy! Against one of the worst defences in the NFL, Favre threw two more interceptions whole just barely breaking 200 yards passing.

Carson Palmer – Cincinnati Bengals – I expect more than 195 yards, 1 touchdown and two interceptions when you have Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco on your roster.

RBs

Colts RBs – After such a promising game last week against the Giants, Joseph Addai and Donald Brown gained only 40 yards on 22 attempts in a game that the Colts were leading throughout. Brutal!!

Broncos RBs – Knowshon Moreno was out this week but nobody picked up the slack. Against one of the worst run defences in the NFL, the Denver RBs gained 47 yards on 18 attempts.

DeAngelo Williams – Carolina Panthers – You can`t blame DeAngelo totally – Jimmy Claussen`s presence allowed the Bengals to play the run. Still, 64 yards rushing is very substandard for one of the biggest Studs in the NFL.

Honourable Mention: Jahvid Best – Detroit Lions, Clinton Portis – Washington Redskins

WRs

Mike Sims-Walker – Jacksonville Jaguars – Two catches, 34 yards. Gerrard was terrible but Sims-Walker was a Dud too.

Marques Colston – New Orleans Saints – He was supposed to have a huge day against an uber-vulnerable Falcons secondary. Four catches for 25 yards makes him a Dud this week.

Vernon Davis – San Francisco 49ers – In a game that the 49ers needed and were trailing the whole game, Davis caught three balls for 22 yards. Terrible!

Honourable Mention: Eddie Royal – Denver Broncos, Chad Ochocinco – Cincinnati Bengals, Steve Smith – Carolina Panthers

One reply on “Week 3 NFL Fantasy Football Studs + Duds”

I’d add Steven Jackson to the duds category. Not sure if it’s fair because he got hurt, but he’s been putting up substandard numbers so far this year. Definitely one of the biggest busts from first round of any fantasy draft.
