Week 2 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

Week 2 NFL waiver wire plus fantasy football lineup tips to help decide who to start or bench on your fantasy football team…

WAIVER WIRE WEEK 2

This is our waiver wire pick-ups column. Dave B scours the free agent pools in fantasy land for the best available talent every week. Availability, of course, depends on the league. We’re using 12 team, 15 roster spot leagues as the median, but we’ll look for roster candidates for leagues of all shapes and sizes.

After all of the weekly games are finished be sure to check our cheatsheets, a who’s hot, and who’s not report plus more in our fantasy football guide.

If you are already looking at the Waiver Wire, I am truly sorry! There may be some nuggets already – pick the right one and laugh all the way to the fantasy bank – choose wrong and you’ll be dropping them in three weeks.

I hope that Dave B’s Week 2 Waiver Wire will help you find the nugget.

QB’s

Matt Hasselbeck – Seattle Seahawks – You likely won’t be drafting him as your starter but if he stays healthy he could surprise. He was accurate and poised behind an offensive line that was missing two starters. Add in the fact that Seattle can’t run the ball and Hasselbeck seems serviceable.

Michael Vick – Philadelphia Eagles – Coach Andy Reid has said that Kolb will remain starter if healthy. That remains to be seen – Kolb was brutal before his concussion and all Vick did in relief was pass for 175 yards and run for 103. Vick played well and could be the starter in Philadelphia before too long.

Derek Anderson – Arizona Cardinals – Not all that excited about Anderson but he did throw for almost 300 yards on Sunday. With Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Breaston and Tim Hightower to throw to, you could do worse.

Others to Monitor: Sam Bradford – St. Louis; Shaun Hill – Detroit Lions Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

RB’s

Brandon Jackson – Green Bay Packers – Ryan Grant is out at least a week and Brandon Jackson figures to get almost all of the carries for Green Bay at home against Buffalo in Week 2. He will be a good play for at least for this week.

Darren McFadden – Oakland Raiders – I don’t know if I trust him but in Week 1, Darren had 18 rushes for 95 yards and six catches for 55 yards in a game that Oakland got blown out in. Until I hear that Michel Bush is coming back 100% from injury, I have to assume that McFadden will be the best option in the Oakland offense.

Peyton Hillis – Cleveland Browns – Surprisingly, Peyton Hillis was the man for the Browns this week. Not only did he out-touch Jerome Harrison, but Hillis got all of the red zone touches. The coaches like Hillis and it could kill Harrison’s value.

WR’s

Austin Collie – Indianapolis Colts – The numbers don’t lie. Collie had 10 catches, 131 yards and a touchdown against Houston. With Anthony Gonzalez reportedly injured already, Collie figures to see more time. But with Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and Pierre Garcon on the roster, he’s a bit of a gamble.

Eddie Royal – Denver Broncos – Everybody passed on him in Fantasy, but maybe we shouldn’t have. He was targeted 10 times in Week 1 and caught eight for 98 yards. This guy has always had the ability and maybe he’s starting to finally realize it.

Mark Clayton – St. Louis Rams – He actually worked out with Sam Bradford in the offseason and the chemistry was obvious. He is the only real passing threat on the Rams and with Bradford targeting him an astounding 16 times in Week 1, he and Steven Jackson will be the St. Louis offense.

Others to Monitor – Brandon Lloyd – Denver Broncos: Devin Aromashodu – Chicago Bears: Dez Bryant – Dallas Cowboys

TE’s

Mercedes Lewis – Jacksonville Jaguars – Lewis is the quintessential Red Zone target. In Week 1, he had two catches, 31 yards and two touchdowns.

Others to monitor – Evan Moore – Cleveland Browns: Jermaine Gresham – Cincinnati Bengals

Defense

Seattle Seahawks – Amazing what a little confidence will do for a team.
