Another interesting Week in the NFL is almost over and as always, we were treated to some extraordinary personal performances.  Unfortunately, there were a fair share of underwhelming stat lines too.

Join me as I break down the weak and the strong efforts of Week 16 in this edition of Studs and Duds.  Apologies to Matt Ryan, Chris Johnson, Ryan Grant, Brandon Jackson, and Zach Miller for not making the HOT list – your efforts were still in Stud contention.

Stud of the Week

Roddy White – Atlanta – White finally broke out of his mini slump, leaving many to wonder what might have been if Roddy had games like this in the past few.  Roddy caught 8 balls for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns in Week 16 – amazing performance from a true Atlanta STUD.

Dud of the Week

Brandon Jacobs – NY Giants – Jacobs has basically been a season long bust, but his Week 16 effort has taken him to a new low.  6 carries for 1 yard – honestly!!!  He did leave the game with an injury in the 3rd quarter, but returned to sulk on the sidelines later.  Every time that Jacobs has a chance to change the perception of his effectiveness, he lets us down – therefore he’s Dud of the Week.

Other Studs

Kurt Warner – Arizona – Lights out against the Rams in Week 16 – would you have expected anything else?  Warner threw for 313 yards and 2 touchdowns in a total beat down of the Rams.

Tom Brady – New England – 4 touchdowns lands Brady back on the Stud list after a lengthy time off.  The 4 tds. came on 23/26 passing (incredible accuracy) and 267 yards.  Welcome back Tom – I hope you can keep it going throughout the playoffs.

Donovan McNabb – Philadelphia – Whew – close game!!!  Although McNabb can look really bad at times, the numbers don’t lie.  He passed for 322 yards with 3 touchdowns, while rushing for 29 yards on 5 attempts.  He’s a Stud – no question about it.

Jonathan Stewart – Carolina – Probably should have been Stud of the Week, but Roddy’s performance was slightly better.  Stewart gained 206 yards on the groung with a touchdown and also had 2 catches for 16 yards.  Stewart is quickly making us forget about DeAngelo Williams – not exactly an easy thing to do.

Jerome Harrison – Cleveland – Raise you hand if you thought that last week’s 286 yards and 3 tds. was a fluke.  Me too.  Harrison proved us wrong with another 148 yards rushing and a touchdown.  He’s auditioning for a job foe next year folks, and seems to be winning over the coaches and management – rightfully so!!!

Ray Rice – Baltimore – 141 yards rushing against the Steelers defense will get you mentioned in the Stud column every time.  Rice owned the Steelers in Week 16 and proved worthy of a Stud mention.

Cadillac Williams – Tampa Bay – It’s about time that the Bucs got something from their running game.  It helped them to a most improbable win in New Orleans.  Williams gained 129 yards on the ground with a td. and added 3 catches for 19 yards as well.  It only took 16 weeks, but finally Cadillac is a Stud.

Randy Moss – New England – A public feud with the media and fans was all that it took to wake Moss up.  In Week 16, in an important game, Moss had 4 catches for 45 yards and scored 3 touchdowns along the way – Stud.

Wes Welker – New England – Welker’s 13 catch 138 yard effort in Week 16 shouldn’t surprise us at all.  He has been absolutely amazing all year.  Although the touchdowns aren’t there, the sheer number of catches that he made puts him in the Studs column automatically.

Anquan Boldin – Arizona – Boldin did most of his damage in the 1st half of his Week 16 game but make now mistake, it was damage.  Boldin had 8 grabs for 116 yards and dominated an overmatched St. Louis secondary.

Brent Celek – Philadelphia – 4 catches, 121 yards and a touchdown from the Tight End is sure-fire Stud numbers.  Great effort to lead all Tight Ends in Week 16.

Other Duds

Vince Young – Tennessee – Ugh!!!  Tennessee really had a chance to make a big statement in this game.  Vince Young could have silenced all of the doubters on National TV.  Instead, he served us a Dud – passing for only 86 yards 0 tds. and 2 interceptions.  So close to Dud of the Week.

Matt Hasselbeck – Seattle – This dude has totally digressed to poor all around Quarterback.  Him and Marc Bulger are guys who had it for a while, but have totally lost it.  Week 16’s 198 yards passing and 4 miserable interceptions is proof.

Carson Palmer – Cincinnati – Of all weeks for Palmer to break from his poor passing performances, this had to be the one – up against the extremely soft Kansas City Defense.  139 yards passing and 1 interception later (2 tds. however), Palmer remains a QB Dud.

Maurice Jones-Drew – Jacksonville – MJD is the quintessential feast of famine player.  One weekend he will have 3 touchdowns, and the next week, he’ll turn in a dud like Week 16’s 64 yards rushing and no touchdowns.

Ricky Williams – Miami – Injured but came back  – maybe he shouldn’t have.  Williams ended up with 35 yards rushing and 26 yards receiving in a game the  Dolphins NEEDED to win, but lost, thanks to this Dudly performance.

Jason Snelling – Atlanta – Michael Turner was declared OUT again this week, leaving Snelling to shoulder the load against the league’s worst run Defense. Snelling only managed 68 yards rushing in a game where his team scored 31 points.

Fred Jackson – Buffalo – With the 1st and 2nd string QBS out for the Buffalo Bills, it was up to the running game to establish itself and keep this game close.  Instead, Jackson offered 39 rushing yards in another of a string of Duds.

Donald Driver – Green Bay – Driver must have been licking his chops when he saw Seattle on the schedule this week.  Injured or not, 3 catches for 33 yards against a poor team, when your team scores 48 points is Dudworthy.

Terrell Owens – Buffalo – Another brutal performance for the Bills passing game.  Although some dude named Brian Brohm was starting at QB (honestly!!!!),  TO should have had more than 39 of the 146 yards that Brohm threw for.

Kenny Britt – Tennessee – Had been playing well and seemed to be in a groove, until Week 16 when Britt only caught 1 pass for 13 yards – Dud.

Mike Sims-Walker – Jacksonville – Another feast or famine player.  This week was unfortunately a famine week in which Sims-Walker only managed 2 catches for 19 yards.

One reply on “Week 16 NFL Fantasy Football Studs + Duds”

Tom Brady is getting into playoff form as he still is one of the most clutch players when it matters the most. It is good to see McNabb back on the list, although he can still look great and horrible all within the same game.
