Hot and Not – Week 2

After only one week of the NFL season, some players have proven that an extended offseason affected them minimally and that they can heat up once the real action starts.

Each week, Dave B will compile a list of Hot and Not Hot players based on their past performances and future matchups.

Here is the Week 2 version!

Hot

QBs

Tom Brady – New England Patriots – Brady absolutely has to be on the list. He had the fifth best passing game of All-Time in the NFL. 517 yards and four touchdowns make Brady the hottest player in the league going into Week 2.

Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers – Rodgers looked virtually untouchable on Thursday night and continued his Hot play with 312 yards passing and three touchdowns. Rodgers is as in control of his offense as anyone.

Drew Brees – New Orleans Saints – Ditto for Brees. He threw for 419 yards against one of the best defences in the NFL on Thursday night.

Honourable Mention: Matt Stafford – Lions, Rex Grossman – Redskins

RBs

Ray Rice – Baltimore Ravens – Rice did the unthinkable – he ran for 107 yards against the Steelers on Sunday with a touchdown while adding 42 yards receiving and another score. Ray is in midseason form already and as Hot as they come.

Matt Forte – Chicago Bears – Forte brought the heat on Sunday – now it’s time for the Bears to bring the money. Forte was responsible for 158 combined yards and two touchdowns.

LeSean McCoy – Philadelphia Eagles – McCoy did more than what was expected in Week 1. His 122 yards rushing, 15 yards receiving and two combined touchdowns kept the heat off Mike Vick and helped the Eagles prove why they are a Super Bowl favourite this season.

Honourable Mention: Darren McFadden – Raiders, Cedric Benson – Bengals, Mike Tolbert – San Diego Chargers

WRs

Wes Welker – New England Patriots – Wow! Everyone was Hot for the Patriots on Monday night but Welker especially brought the heat. He caught eight balls for 160 yards and two touchdowns against Miami and served notice that he is once again a sizzling force to be reckoned with.

Kenny Britt – Tennessee Titans – The heat is off Britt’s personal life and is firmly fixed on his professional life. Britt caught five passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns to emerge as one of the hottest players of Week 1.

Calvin Johnson – Detroit Lions – No surprise here! Megatron was scorching in Week 1 along with the rest of his offense. 6 catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns is further proof.

Honourable Mention: Andre Johnson – Texans, Greg Jennings – Packers, Brandon Marshall – Dolphins

Not Hot

QBs

Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh Steelers – Ben was responsible for five total turnovers and just one touchdown against the Ravens. Chances are that he won’t need to be spectacular in Week 2 against the Seahawks and that he will remain Not Hot for at least another week.

Matt Cassel – Kansas City Chiefs – A rib injury clearly slowed Cassel on Sunday. But 119 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception rightfully lands Cassel on the Not Hot list. KC appears to be a mess offensively which means that Cassel could remain on this list for a while.

Donovan McNabb – Minnesota Vikings – 39 yards passing? I was one that held out some optimism for McNabb but after Week 1 it is clear that a change of addresses has not resulted in Hot play – BRUTAL!

RBs

Chris Johnson – Tennessee Titans – I didn’t see this one coming! It is clear that Johnson’s holdout has affected him more than we thought. In Week 2 Johnson will be playing what amounts to his second preseason game and chances are that he remains Not Hot until Week 3 at least. [ad-8469823]

LeGarrette Blount – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Blount was totally taken out of the game against Detroit and the focus was clearly off of the Tampa running game. 15 yards rushing lands Blount squarely on the Not Hot list.

Shonn Greene – New York Jets – Greene took a backseat to LaDainian Tomlinson on Sunday and really didn’t look like a RB1 in the Jets’ offense. With focus on the passing game for New York, there is a chance that Shonn Greene could remain Not Hot for a while.

Honourable Mention:  Peyton Hillis – Browns, Carolina RBs, Knowshon Moreno – Broncos

WRs

Dwayne Bowe – Kansas City Chiefs – Ugh! Two catches for 17 yards in a struggling offense makes Bowe Not Hot. Add in the unflattering play of Matt Cassel and Bowe suddenly becomes a risky Fantasy start going forward.

Chad Ochocinco – New England Patriots – Ocho is not yet comfortable in the Pats offense and was only in the field for 18 of 80 offensive snaps for New England. With Deion Branch, Aaron Hernandez, and Rob Gronkowski looking like Brady’s favourites, Chad is as Not Hot as he can be in an explosive offense.

Vincent Jackson – San Diego Chargers – Jackson wasn’t Hot on Sunday (2 catches for 31 yards) but he should break out – shouldn’t he? Right now Jackson is Not Hot but hopes are that he snaps out of it in Week 2.

If you are in need of a HOT fantasy football player these Top Hot players for the week should help you out if they’re in your lineup. They may also be free agents on your waiver wire.

If you need to dump a lame duck on your team, these NOTS should be them. Throw em in the trash if you can afford to not have them on your bench. Fantasy Football always favors the prepared mind.

The more research you do, and the more HOT players you have to choose from on your team, the better your odds are of winning your fantasy football league outright this year.

After all of the weekly games are finished be sure to check our waiver wire column, studs and duds, a who’s hot, and who’s not report plus more in our fantasy football guide.
