Week 4 is almost here! It’s time to start obsessing about who to start and who to sit during this first Bye-week of the NFL season. Dave B has compiled a run-down of every matchup this week and who in those games should be started for your Fantasy teams.

Enjoy Dave B’s Week 4 version of Start and Sit – Fantasy Matchups and by all means, leave a comment to let me know what you think!

San Francisco at Atlanta 1:00 PM ET

San Francisco begins a new era with another Offensive Coordinator. While hopes are that he is able to open up the offense a bit, the players still need to make plays. Start Frank Gore and Vernon Davis of course. This may be a bounce back week for Alex Smith against a generous Falcons passing defense as well. You could start Smith in an emergency. For Atlanta Matt Ryan, Roddy White and Anthony Gonzalez are all fine starts.

Baltimore at Pittsburgh 1:00 PM ET

This is a tough game to start any one of the offensive Ravens or Steelers. The Baltimore defense and maybe Anquan Boldin are every week plays as are Rashard Mendenhall and the Pittsburgh defense. I would stay away from the rest.

Carolina at New Orleans 1:00 PM ET

Carolina’s offense has been bad this season, making it difficult to start anyone on the roster. Still, you have to keep Steve Smith active and this is the week that DeAngelo Williams could finally break out. The Saints have been generous to opposing running backs. Drew Brees will have a field day and Pierre Thomas will be good too. As for the Saints receivers – your guess is as good as mine. If I had to choose though, it would still be Marques Colston. Don’t hesitate to use Jeremy Shockey either.

Seattle at St. Louis 1:00 PM ET

Two lower tier offenses do battle in St. Louis. For Seattle, Justin Forsett has established himself and had a huge game against the Rams last season. He is a fringe starter as is John Carlson who is about the only healthy, reliable receiving threat for the Seahawks. For the Rams, Steven Jackson is banged up leaving a huge hole at running back for St. Louis. About the only Ram that I would consider is Mark Clayton who is seeing his share of targets and catches.

Denver at Tennessee 1:00 PM ET

The Denver passing game has been on fire so far this season and there is no reason to think any different against Tennessee. With a lack of a running game for Denver, you have to start Kyle Orton, Eddie Royal and Brandon Lloyd – Demaryius Thomas if you are absolutely stuck. For the Titans, I am still not sold on Vince Young in the slightest but think that Chris Johnson, as always is a fine play.

Detroit at Green Bay 1:00 PM ET

Green Bay is going to be a pissed off bunch going into their game on Sunday. Start all of your Packers, offense and defense. Rodgers, Jennings, Driver, Finley and even Brandon Jackson are all worthy of a start. Make sure that the Packers defense is started as well. As for the Lions, Calvin Johnson is about the only play and is risky at best.

Cincinnati at Cleveland 1:00 PM ET

Carson Palmer is killing the Fantasy buzz surrounding the Cincinnati Bengals. He is a borderline starter as is Ochocinco and Terrell Owens this week. Borderline status should be Green Light status all the way against Cleveland, but the trio has been too inconsistent. Cedric Benson should have a good game and the Cincinnati defense is certainly worthy of a start. For the Browns, there isn`t a whole lot to like Fantasy-wise but new star Peyton Hillis should have a good game against a Cincinnati defense that isn`t great against the run.

NY Jets at Buffalo 1:00 PM ET

The Jets should run wild in this game. LaDainian Tomlinson appears to be the best option but Shonne Greene could be decent flex start as well. The only other sure-fire starters are the Jets defense and Dustin Keller. Mark Sanchez and Braylon Edwards won’t win for you this week but they won’t lose you the week. For Buffalo, it is pretty hard to start anyone! Marshawn Lynch is about the only name worth mentioning but I would look to the Waiver Wire instead of depending on him.

Houston at Oakland 4:05 PM ET

Arian Foster will exploit the terrible Raiders run defense this week – guaranteed! Matt Schaub is a definite play but temper your expectations on Andre Johnson who is matched up against Nnamdi Asomugha this week. Kevin Walter has scored in three straight and should also be started. For Oakland, the pass offense should be OK against the NFL’s worst pass defense.

Indianapolis at Jacksonville 4:05 PM ET

Do I really have to tell you to start Manning, Wayne, Ollie and Clark? Start Joseph Addai too – this game will get ugly quickly and Addai should see a lot of time. For Jacksonville – Maurice Jones-Drew loves playing Indianapolis and should have a good game despite injury.

Washington at Philadelphia 4:15 PM ET

Donovan McNabb is going to have to be huge in this game – he’s all that the Skins have on offense! I like Santana Moss in this game too. For Philadelphia, Vick, Jackson, Maclin, Celek and McCoy should all be in your lineups.

Arizona at San Diego 4:15 PM ET

The Arizona offense is being stifled by Derek Anderson right now. He simply can’t get the ball to his receivers. You will probably have to start Larry Fitzgerald but don’t expect a whole lot. For San Diego, everyone from the starting running back (check back to see if it’s Matthews or Tolbert) to the QB, WRs and TE should be in your lineup. The San Diego defense is a good play here as well.

Chicago at NY Giants 8:20 PM ET

Chicago is Jay Cutler’s team. The passing game will be featured heavily once again on Sunday with Cutler, Johnny Knox, Greg Olsen and maybe even Devin Hester playing a part. Matt Forte is a decent start here too, not because of his rushing ability but because of his pass catching talents. Chicago’s defense, as always, has to be started. The New York Giants will have to go to the air as well especially since the Chicago defense is so good against the run. Eli Manning is a low end QB1 this week and his possession receivers – Steve Smith and Mario Manningham should have good games. It’s pretty hard to bench Red Zone threat Hakeem Nicks in this contest as well.

New England at Miami 8:30 PM ET

Bank on the Patriots passing game to come up huge but stay away from the running game. Brady, Moss, Welker and Aaron Hernandez all warrant starts this week for sure. The Dolphins are going to have to run the ball to keep Brady and company off the field. Ronnie Brown figures to get a lot of touches this week with Ricky Williams being relegated to spot duty. Brandon Marshall is finding his groove as is Chad Henne. Start Marshall for sure and consider Henne a decent bye-week fill-in.

Byes: Cowboys, Chiefs, Vikings, Buccaneers

I am curious what your thoughts on who you would pick for two wr if you had clayton, knox and knicks. I am sure that i like clayton this week and I think knicks may have a big game with manningham as mabey out with a concussion

Hey Justin,

Thanks for the question. I think that you are on the right track with Clayton. With Steven Jackson likely out this week, he is going to be a major factor in the Rams offense. Knox ans Nicks are a toss-uo but if I had to choose, it would be Nicks because the Giants won’t be able to run the ball against the Chicago defense.

Dave B

well i am stuck on my 3rd wr option. would you reccomend hines ward with an unstable batch behind him, or legadu nanee with a pass happy charger offense?

hey im stuck i got 2 spots and have braylon edwards, jacoby jones, shockey and hester who would u start?

Hmmmm. Looks like you are stuck on some “B-rate” guys. Edwayds is a definite startt based on the chemistry he has with Mark sanchex. Other than that, it’s hard not to like the Chicago passing game. Da Bears have no running game and will lean on the passing game in Week 4.
