Fantasy defenses – an aspect often ignored by many but craved by most. To have an elite “D” that you can trot out week-to-week without worrying is a luxury for sure. So why do we wait until the last four or five rounds to pick them up? I am guilty of it too.

So which defenses can make a difference for your Fantasy squad this year? Let’s take a look.

1. Seattle Seahawks

After a slow start to last season the Hawks ended with the third best defense overall in the NFL – fewest yards per game (267.1) and points per game (15.9). Names like Bobby Wagner, Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor make you an elite defensive club. There’s no reason to overthink this one.

2. Buffalo Bills

Surprisingly finished last season with the #1 overall defense in the NFL. They had the most sacks – 54 and there is no reason to think a dropoff is imminent – especially with the defensive minded Rex Ryan coming to run the show and Marcel Dareus and Mario Williams terrorizing quarterbacks.

3. Houston Texans

As long as you have JJ Watt suiting up your defense is in good shape. Period. But we can’t forget about the impending return of Jadaveon Clowney – should be interesting.

4. St. Louis Rams

Robert Quinn and DT Aaron Donald will ensure a lot of sacks and an opportunistic, talented secondary could force some mistakes. This is a team that recorded 39 sacks in their last 11 games last year and only got better this past offseason.

5. New York Jets

Went out and got Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie to fix their need in the secondary – I say job well done!!! New coach Todd Bowles brings over pretty impressive defensive credentials – I say they are a top 5 defense this year – easily.

6. Denver Broncos

A team with Vonn Miller and DeMarcus Ware has to be in the top 10. As always this team should be playing with the lead and should get some opportunities to pad their stats.

7. Baltimore Ravens

Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil are still dominant and the secondary has one of the premier NFL talents – Jimmy Smith. The Ravens could be on their way back to Fantasy relevance.

8. Miami Dolphins

The Miami defense got a whole lot better with the signing of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. He along with Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon make up an insane defensive line. Miami should do some good things this year.

9. Arizona Cardinals

Having defensive backs Patrick Peterson and Tyron Mathieu means that Arizona is going to get a lot of interceptions – a few may be for TDs. They aren’t an elite defense – at this point you take what you can get.

10. Minnesota Vikings

The team has some upside and could be forced to do less with Adrian Peterson back on the fold.
