1. Pittsburgh Steelers D/ST – How can you go wrong? At very worst, they are going to be a top 3 defense. The attention to detail is what makes the Steelers defense great – they draft right and they play right!

2. Green Bay Packers D/ST – This unit is tight! Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams, Clay Matthews, A.J. Hawk, B.J. Raji, Cullin Jenkins, Nick Collins, Desmond Bishop and the names go on. They do everything well!

3. New York Jets D/ST – This team just keeps getting better and with Darrelle Revis healthy and happy going into the season the Jets could be scary. With a hopefully more effective Mark Sanchez the Jets will look better defensively as well.

4. Baltimore Ravens D/ST –The second tier of D/STs start with the Ravens. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs and Haloti Ngata are big names and their prize draft pick Jimmy Smith should make a difference too.

5. New York Giants D/ST – The Giants were ridiculous last season – 46 sacks and an astonishing 46 turnovers. Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyora are an incredible pair propelling the Giants into the Top 5.

6. Chicago Bears D/ST – Names Julius Peppers and Brian Urlacher are pretty enticing but add in Devin Hester on Special Teams and the Bears could be very good.

7. Philadelphia Eagles D/ST – The Eagles are a feast or famine group. While they gave up 23.6 points per game, they did record 39 sacks and 23 interceptions. The start the third tier of Defenses.

8. New England Patriots D/ST – The Pats led the league in interceptions last season (25) and were the #2 scoring defense. The Patriots should be OK this year too – Devin McCourty is a difference maker.

9. San Diego Chargers D/ST – This was a very good unit last season with the offense helping make them look good. The addition of Bob Sanders should help as well.

10. Detroit Lions D/ST – Names like Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley, Louis Delmas and Alphonso Smith have the Lions on the Fantasy Radar. At absolute worst they will be good.

11. San Francisco 49ers D/ST – The 49ers underachieved a bit last season but there is no doubt that this is a talented bunch. A weak division helps their value as well. [ad-8469823]

12. Dallas Cowboys D/ST – DeMarcus Ware is reason alone to be excited about the Cowboys this season. Jerry Jones’s check book is another. With a few pieces via free agency, the Cowboys could be startworthy.

13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers D/ST – A very good draft should help the Bucs toward respectability this season – Adrian Clayborn and Da’Quan Bowers are both tremendous talents.

14. Kansas City Chiefs D/ST – Tamba Hali, Glenn Dorsey and Eric Berry are all solid defensive players and my bet is that Romeo Crenell has this team ready to play this season.

15. St. Louis Rams D/ST – The Rams Defense, like the rest of the team took strides last season. The NFC West bolsters their ranking.

16. Minnesota Vikings D/ST – This unit underachieved last season but they still have some playmakers. If they can regain their 2009 form the Vikes could be Top 10.

17. Atlanta Falcons D/ST – John Abraham is a Stud capable of taking a team to the next level. The Falcons are a work in progress – untrustworthy for Fantasy purposes.

18. Miami Dolphins D/ST – Cameron Wake makes the Fins formidable but the rest of the team leaves something to be desired. Expect this unit to be overworked because of Miami’s lack of offense – Pass!

19. Arizona Cardinals D/ST – The Cards were victims of a terrible offense but names like Darnell Dockett, Kerry Rhodes, Joey Porter, and Adrian Wilson could make them an OK bye week fill-in.

20. Oakland Raiders D/ST – Oakland was the 7th highest scoring defense last season and tied for second in sacks. The good news ends there – Nnamdi Asomugha is gone and the Raiders have a tougher schedule this season.

Pre-season is nearly upon us (we hope), so for the next few weeks we encourage you to be checking out our FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT GUIDE for all your rankings and analysis for the upcoming league drafts that you’re going to be participating in.
