Jimmie Johnson’s hot streak continued with a victory in last week’s $1 million All-Star Race with Joey Logano finishing second and Kyle Busch taking third.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot picks for this Sunday night’s race with odds provided by Sportsbook.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

Johnson has been opened as the favorite to win this race at +450, but we like the fact that Kyle Busch ran third in the All-Star after winning a Truck Series race at this track last Friday night. He comes in as a +600 second favorite to carry that success over to this race.

The No. 18 car is in eighth-place in the Sprint Cup standings with 325 points on the strength of checkered flags at Fontana and Texas along three other top-five finishes.

Busch has never posted a victory in a Sprint Cup point race at Charlotte, but given the fact that he has only finished out of the top 10 once in his last 11 races here, including five top-five finishes in his last six tries, we love his chances to finally break through with a win.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

The list runs deeps with quality drivers in the contender category for this race, but we decided to put Dale Earnhardt Jr. at the top to win at +1500. While the No. 88 car is still searching for its first trip to victory lane this season, it has been in the running several times so far with seven top-10 finishes in the first 11 point races.

This performance has the team in fourth-place in the current standings with 359 points. The only deterrent to this pick is Junior’s overall record at Charlotte, but he did finish seventh in this race in 2011 and sixth in the second race here in 2012.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

If you are looking for value in a longshot for this race then your best bet would be Tony Stewart at +3000. This pick is not really based on current form as the No. 14 car is mired in 21st-place in the point standings with just one top-10 finish this year.

It is also not based on recent performance at this track with just one top-10 finish at Charlotte in his last 10 races here.

The value in these odds is in the fact that Stewart remains a threat to win anytime he gets behind wheel as one of the fiercest competitors on the track.

2013 All-Star Race Predictions

The NASCAR Sprint Cup series heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the next two weeks in preparation for the running of the Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day Weekend, but this Saturday night it will stage its annual All-Star Race.

This 90-lap sprint features all the drivers that won a point race either last season or this year along with the winner and runner-up of the Sprint Showdown. The All-Star Race is a non-point event but the winner lays claim to $1 million first place prize.

All the action this Saturday night is slated to get underway at 7 p.m. with the start of the Sprint Showdown followed directly by the All-Star Race. Both races will be broadcast nationally on the Speed Network.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot for this year’s All-Star Race along with their current odds to win as provided by Sportsbook.

Favorite (odds of less than 10/1)

One of the top favorites to win on Saturday night is Kyle Busch at +500. From late March until early April he was unstoppable with two victories in a span of three races. While the No. 18 car has cooled from that pace since then, it showed signs of returning to form with a sixth-place finish last week at Darlington.

This team is currently in eighth-place in the Sprint Cup standings with 325 points as a result of five top-five finishes in the first 11 races.

The real value in Busch’s odds this week is based on his recent performance in this race. Starting from the Pole the last two years, he finished second in 2011 and fourth last year.

Contender (11/1 to 19/1)

Carl Edwards went into the final race of the 2011 season with a chance to win the Sprint Cup title and while he came up just short to Tony Stewart, one of his biggest accomplishments that season was a victory in this race.

After a forgettable 2012 campaign, the No. 99 team is back in championship form and sitting in second place in the standings with 379 points as a result of a win in Phoenix to go along with four other top-five finishes.

Edwards has been opened at +1200 to win this race and comes in with the proven ability to get it done, which adds a ton of value to these odds.

Longshot (odds 20/1 or higher)

Clint Bowyer has raced in seven previous All-Star Races and his best finish was sixth back in 2007 so the value in his +2000 odds to win this year’s race is not based on past performance, but rather on current form.

He has the No. 15 car in fifth place in the standings with 349 points on the strength of four top-five finishes this season.

Bowyer came close to taking the checkered flag twice so far with a second-place finish at Martinsville and Richmond.

Sprint Cup Futures Update

NASCAR’s Sprint Cup series just completed its 11^th point race of the season with the running of the Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway last Saturday night making it a great time to take a closer look at the current odds to win this season’s Sprint Cup title.

Odds: Bovada

Jimmie Johnson is the clear favorite at 5/2 to add a sixth title to his storied racing career and for good reason. He is currently first in the Sprint Cup point standings with 423 points after posting two victories and four other top-five finishes this year. Johnson has finished out of the top 10 just twice in the first 11 races.

The second-favorite at 6/1 is Matt Kenseth even after getting docked points for an engine part infraction. He has quickly made up that ground with three victories including one in last week’s race. He is currently third in the standings with 364 points.

There are three drivers listed at 8/1 to win this year’s title starting with the defending 2012 champion Brad Keselowski. He has yet to win a race this season, but on the strength of four top-five finishes he is currently seventh place in the standings and 97 points out of the lead.

Kyle Busch is another driver listed at 8/1 and after a disappointing 2012 campaign where he did not even make it into the Chase, he is in eighth place in the standings with 325 points. Busch won two races in the span of three weeks earlier this season and has three other top-five finishes.

The final driver at 8/1 to win it all is Kasey Kahne. He is a guy that you have to watch every week as you just never know when it will be his turn to win. He has a victory at Bristol this season under his belt as well as three more top-five finishes that have him ranked sixth in the standings with 326 points.

Carl Edwards came dangerously close to winning the Sprint Cup title in 2011 but faded into the field last season. He has returned to form with a win at Phoenix earlier in the year and is in second place in the current standings with 379 points after posting a total of five top-five finishes this season. He has been opened at 10/1 to win this year’s title.

The two drivers at 12/1 to win the title are Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Clint Bowyer. Dale Jr. has been extremely competitive all season long with seven top-10 finishes in 11 races to hold down the fourth spot in the standings with 359 points, but somewhere along the line he is going to have to start winning some races to help close the gap between him and the lead.

Bowyer is another one of those drivers that is forever hanging around the front of the pack week after week. He has made his way to fifth place in the standings on the strength of four top-five finishes. He is another driver that is going to have to start winning races as well to have a legitimate shot at competing for the title.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Title Prediction

While the value in the odds at 5/2 is not that great, this is Jimmie Johnson’s title to lose. It has been two years since he ran off a string of five-straight Cup Championships and wants that sixth title in the worst way. Kenseth and Edwards will keep the No.48 car on its toes all the way to Homestead, but in the end the Sprint Cup will be back in Johnson’s possession.

David Ragan stunned the field last week at Talladega in a wild green-white-checkered finish with another longshot, David Gilliland taking second. Carl Edwards rounded-out the top three of this rain soaked event.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot picks for this Saturday night’s race with odds provided by Sportsbook.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

As expected, one of the top favorites to win this week is current Sprint Cup point leader Jimmie Johnson at +600.

The No. 48 car has already opened up a 41-point lead in the standings in its pursuit to recapture the title after a two-year absence. Johnson has posted two victories and three other top-five finishes to tally 383 points in the first 10 races.

Adding even more value to these odds is the fact that he comes into this week’s race as the defending champion. He has three career Sprint Cup victories at Darlington and a number of other top-10 runs that add up to a 9.1 average finishing position at this track.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

In 2011 Carl Edwards came painfully close to winning the Sprint Cup title and after suffering through a disappointing season in 2012, he is right back near the top this year. With a victory at Phoenix combined with four other top-five finishes the No. 99 car is sitting in second place in the standings with 342 points.

Edwards comes into this race at +1000 to win his first ever point race at this track. He ended-up second in 2011 and finished seventh in last year’s race.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

Anytime you can get longer odds on a driver that is currently sitting in third place in the point standings you should jump at the chance. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is still looking for his first victory this season and he has been opened as a mild +2000 longshot to end the drought this Saturday night.

The No. 88 car has been in the mix all year long with six top-10 finishes in the first 10 point races including a second-place finish at both Daytona and Fontana to tally a total of 324 points so far. The reason for the long odds is an average finishing position of 15.3 at this track with is last top-five finish coming in 2008.

Kevin Harvick took his first checkered flag of the season in a point race last Saturday night with a win at Richmond. Clint Bowyer ended-up in second place and Joey Logano finished third.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot picks for this Sunday’s race with odds provided by Top Bet.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

Given how wide open the field is for this Sunday’s race we had to bend the rules a bit for this week’s favorite considering that the best odds for any driver to win are 10/1. Both Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth opened at these odds, but Kenseth gets the nod.

He has already posted victories at Las Vegas and Kansas and despite being docked 50 points in the Sprint Cup standings for an engine violation after his last win, the No. 20 car came very close to winning last week after leading the race for 140 laps.

What really tips the scales in Kenseth’s favor is his recent performance at Talladega with a third-place finish in last year’s race to complement a victory in the second race here in 2012.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

There are a pile of contenders listed at 12/1 to win on Sunday, but we are going with crowd favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. in this category.

The No. 88 car started the season like a house on fire with five top-10 finishes in the first five races that included a second-place finish in the Daytona 500 and another second at Fontana.

Dale Jr. has cooled-off over the past few weeks but remains tied for third-place in the Sprint Cup standings with 297 points. There is also some solid value in Junior’s odds given his success over the years at restrictor plate tracks such as Talladega.

While he has not won here since reeling-off four straight victories from 2001 to 2003, he did finish fourth in this race in 2011 and ninth in the second race here last season.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

While the meat of the order for Sunday is crammed in somewhere between 10/1 and 15/1, the one driver that does stand out at 30/1 is Joey Logano. This guy may be a thorn in a number of people’s sides, but his aggressive style of racing has resulted in three top five finishes so far.

The No. 22 car’s best performance this season was at Fontana when it led the field for 41 laps before finishing third and it remained a factor in last week’s race to the very end.

What makes Logano a real reach to win this race is an average finishing position of 18.1 in eight previous Sprint Cup races at this track, but current form may be able to compensate for that.

Kasey Kahne raced his way to second place and perennial favorite Jimmie Johnson ended-up third. The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot picks for this Saturday night’s race with odds provided by Sportsbook.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

Kyle Busch will be looking to bounce back quickly from last week’s disappointing 38^th-place finish after winning twice in the previous three point races. The Oddsmakers must like his chances after opening him as the +450 favorite to win for the third time this season on Saturday night.

The No. 18 car fell to seventh-place in the Sprint Cup standings with 257 points but still has three other top-five finishes to go along with the two victories. The real value in these lofty odds is Busch’s past dominance at this track.

He has already posted four victories here and over the course of his 16 careers races at Richmond, he has finished in the top five an impressive 12 times.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

The defending Sprint Cup Champion made his way to Victory Lane five times in the 2012 season and despite four top-five finishes in the first eight races this year he is still searching for his first checkered flag.

Brad Keselowski and the No.2 car has raced well enough to hold down the third spot in the current Sprint Cup standings with 273 points but this team is fueled by crossing the finish line first. He has been opened at +1000 to notch that first win on Saturday night.

Keselowski has only made seven previous Sprint Cup starts at this track and while the overall results are nothing to write home about, he did finish in the top 10 in both races here last season.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

Trolling through the list of longshots to win this race, the pickings are slim as far as value. If you are still looking to take a flyer on someone with longer odds, then Greg Biffle at +2500 might be worth a second look.

He is currently fourth in the standings with a total of 264 points after posting four top-10 finishes in the first eight races of the year.

He has led 39 laps and came very close to winning two weeks ago with a fourth-place finish at Texas. The reason for the long odds this week is an average 16.3 finishing position at this track with no previous wins.

The No.16 car broke a string of 11 races finishing outside the top 10 with a ninth-place finish in the second race at Richmond in 2012.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

In what seems like a weekly occurrence, Jimmie Johnson has been opened as the favorite to win on Sunday.

This time around, along with Greg Biffle, he has been listed at +600 to make a third trip to victory lane this year. The No.48 car also has three other top-10 finishes in the first seven races to continue to hold down the top spot in the Sprint Cup standings with 269 points.

Johnson’s recent performance at Kansas Speedway also warrants these lofty odds with eight-straight top-10 finishes including a victory in the second race at this track in 2011 and a third-place finish in last year’s race.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

It has been a very quiet start for one of NASCAR’s top Sprint Cup drivers; however you cannot help but get the feeling that Kevin Harvick and his No.29 car is due for a breakout race after posting just one top-10 finish in his first seven runs this year. The team has raced well enough to rank 12th in the standings with 192 points so the form is still there.

Harvick has also raced well at Kansas over the past few seasons with three top-10 finishes in his last five races here including a sixth-place finish in last year’s race; making it is easy to see the value in his +1500 odds to win this week.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

Jamie McMurray comes into this race as a true longshot to win at +7500, but worth a second look given his current form. The No.1 car finished 16th last week at Texas, but it cracked the top 10 at both Bristol and Martinsville earlier in the season and is currently 13th in the standings with 190 points.

Last year at Kansas, McMurray remained competitive in both races only to fade down the stretch to a 14th-place finish in this race and a 15th-place finish in the second race of the year.

His best career finish here was seventh in 2004 after leading 19 laps of that race.

Jimmie Johnson left little doubt that he is geared-up for another legitimate run at a Sprint Cup title with a victory last week at Martinsville. Clint Bowyer finished third and veteran NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon ended-up third.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot picks for this Saturday night’s race with odds provided by Sportsbook.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

Jimmie Johnson is one of two co-favorites at +600 to win this race along with Kyle Busch. The value in Johnson’s odds is fairly obvious given his current form.

The No. 48 car is currently in first place in the Sprint Cup standings with 231 points and after the first six races of the new season, it has posted four top-10 finishes that also includes a victory in the Daytona 500.

Adding even more value to Johnsons’ odds is his recent performance at Texas.

He followed-up a second-place finish in last year’s race with a victory in the second race at this track in 2012. His average finishing position here is 9.3.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

Sportsbook’s list is littered with a number of quality drivers in this odd’s category, but the most value lies in Kasey Kahne at +1200. The No. 5 car took the checkered flag earlier in the season at Bristol as part of four top-10 finishes that has it sitting in fifth-place in the Sprint Cup standings with 199 points.

Kahne has already led for 223 laps this season as compared to a total of 282 laps for the entire 2012 Sprint Cup season.

He won this race in 2006 and is coming off a seventh-place finish in last year’s race.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

When trying to find value in some of the longer odds on the board, a name that jumps off the page is Paul Menard at +7500. With odds this high nothing more than a very small play is recommended, but this relatively unheralded Sprint Cup driver is one to watch after racing his way to ninth place in the standings with 179 points.

The No. 27 car ended-up 18th last week but this followed three-straight top-10 finishes including an eighth-place finish at Fontana.

In 13 previous Sprint Cup races at Texas, his best finish is fifth in this race back in 2011.

After a week off, NASCAR’s Sprint Cup series returns to action this weekend at Martinsville Speedway for the running of the STP Gas Booster 500. Sunday’s race is set to get underway at 1 p.m. and it will be broadcast nationally on FOX.

It has been awhile since Kyle Busch made his way to victory lane in a Sprint Cup point race, but that drought ended with a wild first-place finish two weeks ago at Fontana. Dale Earnhardt Jr. posted his fifth-straight top-10 finish by taking second and our longshot pick for that race, Joey Logano plowed his way to a controversial third-place finish.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot picks for this Sunday’s race with odds provided by Sportsbook.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

Jimmie Johnson started this season with a bang by winning the Daytona 500 followed by a second-place finish at Phoenix and sixth at Las Vegas. However, the No.48 car has had its share of troubles since then; finishing out of the top 10 in its last two races. Overall, it remains in the thick of the point race battle with 183 total points which is currently holding down third place in the Sprint Cup standings. Johnson has been opened as the odds-on-favorite to win at Martinsville this week at +400 and for good reason. He has taken the checkered flag here seven previous times including a victory in the second race at this track last season. Overall, he boasts an average finishing position of 5.5.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

With a total of just three drivers with odds of less than +1200, it is a good week to make a play on a contender. As part of a group of five drivers at +1200, the best value lies with Dale Earnhardt Jr. The No. 88 race team is off to a red-hot start with five top-10 finishes in the first five point races of the season including second at both Daytona and Fontana. This run has it in first place in the standings with 199 points. Dale Jr. has yet to win a Sprint Cup point race at Martinsville but he has come awful close lately with a top-10 finish in four of his last five races at this track including a third-place finish in last year’s race.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

We are staying way from Logano at +2500 for this race as he is likely to get taken out by someone on the first lap after ending a number of driver’s chances to win at Fontana. The value in the longer odds this week go to Greg Biffle at +2000. The No. 16 car finished sixth its last time out to post its second top-10 finish of the year. While its current form may not be completely up to speed, this team led the Sprint Cup point standings for quite awhile last season and its recent performance at Fontana was encouraging to say the least. The drain on Biffle’s odds lie in his past performance at this track. He only has three top-10 career finishes at Martinsville but one of them did come in the second race here last season.

It has been an up and down season for Kasey Kahne so far but last Sunday he was at the top of his game with a win at Bristol. Kyle Busch is starting to make his presence felt with a second-place finish and Brad Keselowski made it four-straight top-five finishes this season after ending-up third.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot picks for this Sunday’s race with odds provided by WagerWeb

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

Jimmie Johnson started this season off by winning the Daytona 500 and followed it up with a second-place finish at Phoenix. Despite a poor showing last week at Bristol, he has been opened as this week’s favorite to win at +575. These odds have also been heavily influenced by the No.48 car’s past performance at this track.

Johnson has won at Fontana four previous times and boasts an average finishing position here of 5.4.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

It has been a season to forget so far for 2011 Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart after posting just one top-ten finish in the previous four point races. However, the No.14 car still offers some solid value in its +1200 odds to turn things around this Sunday with a win.

Stewart is no stranger to the winner’s circle at Fontana in recent years with a victory in last season’s race and a first-place finish in the second race at this track in 2010 when Auto Club Speedway use to host two Sprint Cup races each season. 

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

The value in the odds drop off rather quickly once you start looking for a longshot to win this race, but if you are still interested in taking a flyer on someone then consider a small play on Joey Logano at +4000. He has yet to finish in the top 10 in the first four races, but by keeping the No.22 car in the mix all season long, finds himself in 12^th-place in the Sprint Cup standings with 104 points.

He finished 24^th in last year’s race and his best career finish at Fontana was fifth in 2010.
