Player to Score 1st TD
Running back Chris Brown of Oklahoma leads the field at +450, followed by Florida receiver Percy Harvin (+600) and quarterback Tim Tebow (+800). Oklahoma receivers, Juaquin Iglesias and Jermaine Gresham, are also +800.
Brown had 20 rushing touchdowns this year including 11 in the past four games. He will get the bulk of the opportunities as DeMarco Murray is out with a season-ending hamstring injury. Gresham and Iglesias had 12 and 10 TD receptions respectively in Sam Bradford’s prolific passing offense.
Harvin says he is 90% healthy for this game after missing the SEC title contest against Alabama. He had nine rushing touchdowns and seven receiving as a dual threat this year. Last year’s Heisman winner, Tebow, led the team in rushing touchdowns with 12 as they like to use his big body down inside the five yard line.
Margin of Victory
The Gators are currently favored by four points but you can get increased odds if you go a little more out on a limb.
For example, Florida winning between 14-17 points is +1400 odds. That might sound like a lot of points but the Gators beat Alabama in the SEC title game by 11 points and in Florida’s three games before that, they won by an average margin of 43 points.
Fans who are predicting an Oklahoma upset will find them attractive at +700 odds to win by between 4-6 points. The Sooners’ offense scored more than 60 points in each of their last five games and they are playing with a tremendous amount of confidence.
First Scoring Play
A Florida touchdown run leads the way at +250 and a Florida touchdown pass is +300. An Oklahoma touchdown pass is +300 and an Oklahoma touchdown run is +350. Field goals for either of these teams fall farther down the list.
Florida scored first in every game they played this year except against Mississippi, when they fell behind 7-0. That was the Gators only loss, a stunning 31-30 defeat in Gainesville.
The Sooners scored first in all 13 games they played this year including the one they lost to Texas, 45-35.
Total Points Scored
The Over/Under is this game is set at 74 points but this prop gives you a reason to examine the final score a little more closely.
For example, let’s start with the fact that Oklahoma has gone Over the Total the last nine games and is 11-1 Over on the year. Florida has gone Over six of the last seven games and is 8-4 Over on the year.
Those who like the Over can get +500 odds if the score is between 78-84 points. 85-91 points is +800 and 99 or more points is +1000.
Fans of the Under will point out that the BCS title game scored 62 total points last when LSU beat Ohio State, and 55 in 2006 when Florida beat Ohio State. Keep in mind that these teams average over 99 points between them on offense but only give up 37.
