For the visiting Bulldogs, former Texas and Mississippi State defensive co-ordinator Manny Diaz is on board, which is exciting for a struggling program like this.
Diaz has a few half-decent players to work with, especially in the secondary with CBs Le’Vander Liggins and Adairius Barnes and safety Xavier Woods. However, with those three names and the running of Dixon, that’s where the optimism ends for Louisiana Tech.

Tech isn’t a great football team and should be in the bottom quarter of the FBS teams in America.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 4-8 season under head coach Skip Holtz and they’ll be lucky to bump up close to .500 ball this season, in the miserable Conference USA.
The Sooners, on the other hand, are still pumped about QB Trevor Knight’s inspired performance in the Sugar Bowl against national heavy Alabama.

They anticipate Knight can guide them to the Promised Land in 2014; it all starts with a pumping of the Week 1 visitors.
Even without Green-Beckham, Sterling Shepard is a stud WR and OU also features a loaded defense. Defensive end Charles Tapper and a stacked LB unit headlines and defense that should make most opponents fearful this year.
On top of Knight under center, Oklahoma has battering-ram QB (not unlike Tim Tebow’s role at Florida) Blake Bell, who has since made the position switch to tight end. Bell is a 6″6, 260 lb athlete that can contribute in multiple ways for the Sooners’ attack. He should be a safety valve for Knight this season.
The entire offense is helped by a veteran offensive line; every starter on the unit is an upperclassman (at least a junior). Offensive tackles Tyrus Thompson and Daryl Williams head the five-man front.
Yet, Oklahoma is not without controversy: On top of Green-Beckham’s absence (he was dismissed from Missouri for misbehaviour, and the NCAA denied his application for immediate eligibility), star LB Frank Shannon might miss the season after being found guilty by a school panel of sexual misconduct.
Still, the depth is there to potentially make a run this year in Norman; it’s certainly unlikely (if not damn near impossible) that Week 1 opponent Louisiana Tech will get in the Sooners’ way.
It should be a whipping in Sooner Nation on Saturday night.

The Buckeyes were one of the early favourites for a playoff spot before Braxton Miller went down before the season even started.
That reframed their whole season but this is OSU so the expectations are still pretty high. This will be a stern test with Navy being one of the most disciplined teams in the country.

The Buckeyes will certainly have the physical advantage but if they are sloppy with it being the first week and all Navy will take advantage.
They are not in Annapolis but the crowd will be loyal to Navy for sure.
I was surprised that the line is as big as it is without Braxton and with an untested backup. The Ohio State defense is supposed to be a monster this year and they are going to have to dominate in this one to cover that number.
The rushing attack of Navy is not intimidated they hung more than 300 yards on a very good Notre Dame defense last year.
OSU has to get points early to put the pressure on.

This is a fun one for the Naval Academy. They often play big name schools but rarely in pseudo home games and even more rarely with a really strong chance to win – they lost by just 4 points against OSU back in 2009.
Navy is a super disciplined triple option running team and if they can have success they can make defenses feel really uncomfortable. Best of all their style wears at teams and their confidence.
This is not a team to be underestimated.
Though it is no surprise how Navy will attack this year’s attack is keyed by Keenan Reynolds as super savvy triggerman who scored a ton of touchdowns last year. An effective running game is the only way that they are going to scare the Buckeyes and potentially cash a ticket for backers.
Given the losses on the OSU side this number looks a little too inflated.
As someone who generally prefers underdogs this is a nice spot on opening weekend. Plus it always feels better to back a team like Navy against a behemoth like Ohio State.
That running game will be good enough to keep them close.
