The New York Giants are 11.5-point underdogs
in the BetUS Super Bowl odds. If they are
able to pull off the upset, they will have
to get a monster performance out of someone.
And that someone may get the Super Bowl
MVP award. So who could it be?
Well, first let's take a look at the field::
BetUS NFL Betting
Prop - Super Bowl -- February 3
TO BE SUPER BOWL MVP
Adalius Thomas +3500
Ahmad Bradshaw +1400
Amani Toomer +1400
Ben Watson +3500
Antonio Pierce +4000
Asante Samuel +1800
Brandon Jacobs +1100
Corey Webster +3500
Donte Stallworth +2500
Eli Manning +450
Gibril Wilson +4500
Junior Seau +2500
Kevin Faulk +1100
Laurence Maroney +700
Michael Strahan +3500
Plaxico Burress +1000
Randy Moss +700
Rodney Harrison +2200
Sam Madison +4500
Steve Smith +4000
Tedy Bruschi +3000
Tom Brady -225
Wes Welker +700
Field +700
First of all, let's establish that out
of the 42 MVP winners (there were co-winners
one year), half of them have been QB's.
here is the breakdown:
21 quarterbacks
7 running backs
5 wide receivers
2 defensive ends
2 linebackers
2 safeties
1 cornerback
1 defensive tackle
1 kick returner/punt returner
Which player from the Giants could emerge?
And by the way, anyone looking for Chuck
Howley all over again can forget it - the
Giants are going to have to win this game
for them to have the Super Bowl MVP.
Analyze THIS:
ELI MANNING (+450) -- Well, as of right
now, the Giants are +375 on the money line,
so if you're figuring the quarterback is
going to get half the time, there might
not be value in this for you. But if you
think the Giants have a great shot, and
manning is the second coming off, well,
Manning, then you may want to plunge in
here.
BRANDON JACOBS
(+1100) -- If the Giants win this game,
it may be because they rushed the ball
well, maybe even down New England's throat.
Jacobs would be a part of that. He's
certainly a bulwark, and like Jerome
Bettis, he looks like a "bus" but
drives like a car.
AHMAD BRADHSAW (+1400) -- First of all,
congratulations to a rookie out of Marshall
who didn't get much attention from NFL
scouts (7th round draft pick), and ran
for just 190 yards in the regular season,
for even making it into this field. Some
people think he may be a better play than
Jacobs, because even though Jacobs will
start, Bradshaw is the guy with the outside
speed who can break the long runs. But
there's not a lot of value here, unless
that happens, and more.
MICHAEL STRAHAN (+3500) -- This is my
longshot play. Strahan may be playing his
last NFL game here, as he has said he might
retire if he was on top. And he is likely
ticketed for the Hall of Fame eventually.
Maybe it's time for some sentimentality.
And if the Giants mount enough of a pass
rush on Tom Brady to win this game, Strahan
may be a real catalyst for it.
But here's my main man for the Giants,
if things bounce their way:
PLAXICO BURRESS (+1000) -- Burress is
capable of being a good possession receiver
for the Giants, or making the big play.
He has found the end zone eight times,
including twice against New England in
the season finale. They had trouble with
him first time around, for sure. His tumultuous
season, in which he's dealt with ankle
injuries, is potentially a big story. He'll
be rested, which can't hurt. And he's the
poor man's Joe Namath in this game, having
made the prediction, with the score (20-17).
Of course, if the Giants put up just a
couple of touchdowns, that may hurt his
chances. But clearly he is the guy Eli
Manning looks for, and he was the most
valuable player for the Giants in the Green
Bay game.
