After becoming the first team in NFL history to win all 16 of its regular season games – while simultaneously dealing with the fallout and disciplinary action of last season’s now infamous ‘Spygate’ saga - the Patriots entered the 2007 postseason where they won two more contests to push their record to an impressive 18-0 before they were promptly steamrolled by the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII while having their plans on joining the 1972 New England Patriots as the only undefeated champion in league history completely derailed in the process.

Now, with the start of the 2008 training camp season hovering less than two months away, the Patriots – and the BetUS online sports wagering community that loves its NFL football betting, will get the opportunity to start their respective processes of picking NFL winners and trying to win NFL games, all over again.
Despite failing in their pursuit for perfection, the 2008 version of the Patriots figures to be just as explosive as they were last season – at least on the offensive side of the ball – and say they have forgotten all about last season’s successes and failures.
"New season," safety Rodney Harrison said simply after a recent workout. "Just like when we won Super Bowls we had to come back the following year and forget about it and move forward. We have to do the same about last year."
And speaking of last year, the Patriots were downright generous to the BetUS online NFL betting community, covering the spread in 10 of their 16 games, including posting identical 5-3 ATS records at home and on the road.
New England was even better in Over/Under Wagers, with their high-powered offense sending the Total Over in 11 of 16 games.
However, the Patriots had their weaknesses exposed by the Giants and now enter the 2008 season looking to address and shore up some of those areas of concern, most notably, its aging and now, slow-footed defense.
To that end, Bill Belichick and his personnel staff drafted three defensive players with their first three draft picks – after getting their original first round pick taken by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for their role in ‘Spygate’.
New England drafted linebacker Jerod Mayo to lay one of the inside linebacker positions, likely behind starter Victor Hobson and hope second round pick Terrence Wheatley can challenge for the starting left cornerback position.
If the Pats can shore up their defense just a bit, their offense will take care of itself and the Patriots could find themselves hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy early next year.
