NFL Football Futures Betting - Early Super Bowl XLIII Odds
With the
NFL Draft taking place this past weekend,
the aroma of NFL football online betting
is back in the air once again and although
it will be approximately four months
before the 2008 NFL regular season gets
underway, wise NFL bettors know that
it’s never too early to begin in
their preparation for another exciting
NFL wagering season in either, the BetUS
Locker Room or BetUS Sportsbook.
With that
in mind, this article will look at the
early NFL Odds to win Super Bowl XLIII
while providing a brief comment about
each team’s realistic chances of
actually winning the conference title.
Now, before some NFL mini-camp gets underway,
let me get busy.
The Best Bets: Simply put, this group
of teams stands the best chance of reaching
Super Bowl XLII in the BetUS Sportsbook.
New England Patriots +330
Despite their
colossal Super Bowl XLIII loss to the
New York Giants, the New England Patriots
will obviously be very good again next
season despite some offseason changes
that will surely take place in ‘Bill
Belichick Land.’ While I am by no
means a Patriots follower, it’s hard
to believe that they won’t be one
of the top two or three teams in the AFC
once again next season.
Indianapolis Colts +700
While the Colts
need to shore up their defense and improve
along the offensive line a bit, the fact
of the matter is that, as long as sure-fire
Hall of Famers, Peyton Manning and Tony
Dungy are joined at the hip, this franchise
will remain a perennial contender.

San Diego
Chargers +700
To put it mildly,
I think the Chargers may have beaten the
New England Patriots in last season’s
AFC Championship game had their three best
offensive players, not all been injured
at the same – and most inopportune
- time. The Chargers could literally be
the team to beat in 2008.
Jacksonville
Jaguars +1400
The Jaguars have
always had the defense under head coach
Jack Del Rio, now all they have to do is
improve their offense just a tad bit more
and this franchise could find themselves
in their first Super Bowl in franchise
history. Naming David Garrard as the starter
last season was clearly a huge step in
the right direction.
New York
Giants +1600
Say what you want
about this team and its chances at repeating,
but I think the Giants will have a better
chance than most of the Super Bowl winners
because of their powerful defense and the
fact that their offense could be even better
in 2008 with another year of experience
and maturity under their collective belts.

Dallas Cowboys +800
I love head
coach Wade Phillips, but I am concerned
that the Cowboys’ all-out
attempt to collect talent, despite the off-field
baggage, will ultimately be this team’s
demise. Just picture T.O. and Pacman in the
same locker room … oooh boy!
Philadelphia Eagles +2000
The Eagles have been one of the best teams
in all of football for the better part of
the last decade under head coach Andy Reid,
but the Eagles need better receivers and
an improved defense if they are going to
really challenge for conference supremacy.
Legitimate Contenders: This group of teas
sits just on the verge of the elite teams
in the league.
Pittsburgh Steelers +2000
Mike Tomlin
did a more than credible job in his first
season as an NFL head coach and has this
team headed in the right direction. If
the Steelers can find a complimentary back
to go along with Sammy Parker while shoring
up their normally stellar defense just
a bit, don’t be surprised if the
Steelers make a deep playoff run.
Cleveland Browns +3000
While I’m pretty sure the Browns will
once again be able to score plenty of points
on offense in 2008, I will remain skeptical
until I actually see this team stop someone
with their defense. Still, it’s good
to see Romeo Crennel and the Browns back
on the map.
Tennessee Titans +3000
Everyone knows that quarterback Vince Young
is supremely athletically gifted, but the
Titans young signal caller still needs to
be much more effective throwing the ball
on order for this team to take another step
toward elite status. Even so, I fully expect
head coach Jeff Fisher to keep this team
in contention for the AFC title at the very
least.
New Orleans Saints +2000
It was just two season ago that this club
challenged for an appearance in the Super
Bowl. After a dismal start and injuries doomed
them last year, the Saints should be back
to their contending form they displayed in
2006. Any team with Drew Brees, Reggie Bush
and Duce McAllister, is going to be able
to score the ball. Now, if the Saints can
improve their mediocre defense, they could
be in business.
The Playoffs Are A Possibility: This group
of teams has a legitimate shot at reaching
the postseason in 2008.
Buffalo Bills +8000
I Like the
direction that head coach Dick Jauron has
the Bills headed in and think this team
has nothing but a bright future in front
of them after posting a respectable 7-9
record last season. If the Bills can continue
building their team through the draft the
way they have the last couple of seasons,
don’t be surprised if this
team finds themselves in the postseason in
2008.
Green Bay Packers +1600
The Pack could
be a playoff team in 2008 – or
fall flat on their collective faces without
Brett Favre leading them. I’d really,
really hate to be Aaron Rodgers right now.
Denver Broncos +3500
The Broncos
could be a near-Super Bowl contender or
miss out on the playoffs all together depending
on the progression – or regression – of
young quarterback Jay Cutler.
Houston Texans +6500
The Texans are heading in the right direction
under head coach Gary Kubiak and could actually
nab a playoff spot this season if they take
another step forward on both sides of the
ball.
Minnesota Vikings +3000
The Vikings clearly have their running back
of the future in Adrian Peterson, now if
only Jarius Jackson can continue developing
into a starting NFL quarterback. Head coach
Brad Childress has this team headed in the
right direction in a big way.
Seattle Seahawks +3000
Year after
year, the Seahawks keep disappointing under
head coach Mike Holmgren, although I’ll
always say they were robbed in their Super
Bowl loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers a
couple of seasons ago. The playoffs may
be a stretch for the Seahawks this season.
Arizona Cardinals +5000
The Arizona Cardinals are headed in the
right direction under head coach Ken Whisenhunt
and could seriously make the playoffs this
season. As a matter of fact, I say they do!
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +4000
Quarterback Jeff Garcia could lead a band
of blind men to the Super Bowl with his extraordinary
leadership skills and could take the Bucs
further than anyone expects heading into
the 2008 season.
Not Gonna’ Happen:
These teams are going nowhere fast in 2008,
though some could improve on their respective
2007 seasons.
New York Jets +10000
Unless Joe ‘Broadway Joe’ Namath
comes out of retirement and laces up his
cleats for the beleaguered Jets - along with
the likes of Joe Klecko and some of the Jets
other all-time greats - head coach Eric ‘Manginius’ Mangini
will continue to look like the class dunce.
The Jets had better solve their quarterback
issues with some sort of expediency.
Chicago Bears +4000
I’m so disappointed in head coach
Lovie Smith’s inability to see that
his quarterbacks, Rex Grossman and Brian
Griese, are both backups, (and bad backups)
at this stage of their respective careers.
Even Devin Hester can’t score enough
to save this team’s pathetic offense.
Kansas City Chiefs +10000
I’m amazed that folks all over the
Kansas City area are praying that young signal
caller Brady Croyle is going to be a starting
NFL-caliber quarterback when all I see is
the classic ‘deer-in-the-headlights’ look
every time he takes the field. This will
most likely be head coach Herm Edwards’ last
season with the Chiefs.
Oakland Raiders +15000
While the Raiders may have nabbed the best
player in the entire draft in former Arkansas
running back Darren McFadden, this team is
at least another three years away from competing
for anything other than an 8-8 record.
Miami Dolphins +8000
The Dolphins,
(1-15) might as well be plus two million
since there is absolutely no way they are
going to reach Super Bowl XLIII with all
the rebuilding that Bill Parcells and Tony
Sparano have to do in South Beach. Count
the Fish out until the 2010 season at the
earliest – if then.
Baltimore Ravens +5000
The Baltimore
Ravens fell hard and fast last season in
going 5-11 and have turned to former Philadelphia
Eagles special teams coach John Harbaugh
who certainly didn’t
do anything in that position to warrant being
hired as a head coach for the first time
in his career. I say the Ravens will be extremely
lucky to reach 8-8 next season.
Cincinnati Bengals +3500
Speaking of
teams that have fallen hard and fast, the
Bengals are a shell of the team that looked
so promising just a couple of years ago – before most of their
players began seeing more time in court than
on the field. I’m giving head coach
Marvin Lewis one more season to get this
franchise headed in the right direction.
Washington Redskins +3000
Former NFL
quarterback Jim Zorn will have his work
cut out in replacing Hall of Fame legend
Joe Gibbs, particularly on the defensive
side of the ball where this team can’t
stop running water.
Atlanta Falcons +15000
Exit Mike Vick and enter spirited young
quarterback Matt Ryan, a player I think is
going to be the real deal in the NFL at some
point. Still, this team is eons away from
competing for anything more than six wins.
Carolina Panthers +4000
I think head coach John Fox is one of the
very best in all of football, but this team
has taken a couple of huge steps backwards
the last two seasons and is not really a
playoff contender at this point.
San Francisco 49ers +5000
I’m disappointed
in the huge step backwards this team took
last season and still have more than my
share of doubts about former No. 1 overall
draft pick Alex Smith.
Detroit Lions +8000
You’ve
got to be kidding, right? The Lions are
toothless and head coach Rod Marinelli
should be preparing his resume for his
next job.
St Louis Rams +8000
The Rams had
better say ‘bye-bye’ to
head coach Scott Linehan or they’ll
be floundering for quite some time. Enough
said.
