The Dungy led Colts Attack Matt Ryan and the Falcons
Game-day: 8/16/2008
The Colts looked very good in their first pre-season game of the year against the Washington Redskins. They ended up losing but in that first half, with no Joseph Addai, Marvin Harrison or Peyton Manning, the Colts did very well on offense.
Dallas Clark looked to be in regular season form and the Colts o-line is as good as it has ever been. For NFL betting fans, expect the Colts to bounce back this season. They could even dominate now that their cornerbacks have had a year to adjust in Coach Tony Dungy’s Tampa 2 Cover scheme.

Of course, just because the Indianapolis Colts looked good, it doesn’t mean that they should win this pre-season game. Coach Dungy never, ever works his fellas hard in the pre-season. Not in these games, anyhow. Why should he when he knows that the most important work during the pre-season is done on the practice field?
The Atlanta Falcons are a very different team from last season. They showed no ill effects from the Bobby Petrino and Michael Vick fiascos that plagued them last year in their first pre-season game of the season.

The big news is that Matt Ryan, the third pick in the 2008 NFL draft, looked very, very good. Ryan should be the starter in Week 1. Yes, I do believe that. Why not? Online football betting fans should note that Ryan’s mechanics are already better than any other quarterback on the Falcons’ squad.
He’ll make mistakes but does anybody really believe that the Falcons are going to make the playoffs this season?
Here are the BetUS sportsbook NFL betting odds for this game.
Indianapolis Colts + 3 - 110 + 140 O 37 ½ - 110
Atlanta Falcons - 3 - 110 - 160 U 37 ½ - 110
Okay, so the odds say that the Falcons probably win this game by a nice NFL online wagering against the spread line of – 3. Do they?
The Falcons have more to find out about themselves. Teams that have more to find out about themselves usually do better in NFL Pre-season games because they have to play their projected starters for more snaps.
I see the Falcons doing that in this game. Matt Ryan should start the game and then take most of the snaps. He needs the work and the Falcons are kidding themselves if they believe that Chris Redman, Joey Harrington or D.J. Shockley is the answer this year.
From an NFL betting point-of-view, the Colts are a terrible bet because Dungy won’t push his starters too hard. The Falcons are a great online bet because they’re still looking for starters.
Free Pick: I’m going to make an online wager on the Atlanta Falcons to cover the – 3 against the spread - Sportsbook Betting Line at – 110
