NCAA Basketball Betting - Portland at Gonzaga
BetUS: The
Portland Pilots (7-13 SU, 6-11 ATS) have not
had the same kind of success this season as
their NBA counterparts, the Trail Blazers,
and they will have their work cut out for them
on Monday night when they visit the McCarthey
Athletic Center in Spokane to take on the Gonzaga
Bulldogs (15-5 SU, 10-10 ATS) in West Coast
Conference action set to tip off at 8 PM ET.
In the BetUS NCAAB betting odds, Gonzaga
is listed at -22.5, with a total of 139.5
posted.
Here are some of the NCAA basketball betting
trends relative to this matchup:
* PORT has lost five of its last seven games
SU
* PORT is 1-6 ATS in its last seven posted
games
* PORT has played its last three games UNDER
the total
* PORT is 2-8 SU on the road this season
* PORT is 4-5 ATS on the road this season
* GONZ is 5-9 ATS at home this season
* GONZ has won six of its last seven games
SU
* GONZ is 3-7 ATS in its last ten games
* GONZ has played four of its last six games
OVER the total
* GONZ has won the last eight meetings SU
* GONZ has had the shooting edge in each
of the last eight meetings
* GONZ has had the rebounding edge in each
of the last eight meetings
Gonzaga is coming off a big effort against
#1 Memphis on Saturday, where they did not
win (81-73 final) but they did get the cover.
It would frankly be surprising if, just a
couple of days later, they were to have enough
in the tank to put forth a full effort here.
The 'Zags have not been winning money for
their betting backers, covering three of
the last ten, and they have dropped their
last six home games to the number.
Certainly almost all of the fundamental
edges here must go to Gonzaga, but Portland
may have a chance to make things interesting
if they can avoid getting off to one of those
horrible starts that have plagued them. And
the Pilots are no strangers to playing close
games: out of Portland's 13 losses, only
four of them have been by more than ten points,
and the last four have been by 13 points
combined.
Of course, it isn't going to be easy. Guard
Nik Raivio, the team's leading scorer, has
been in a bit of a slump, having put up 18
total points in the last three games. But
Taishi Ito has had a 2.4-to-1 ratio of assists
to turnovers in conference play. And German
import Robin Smeulders, who had 15 points
and nine rebounds in a narrow loss to San
Diego, looks like he may be evolving into
the kind of player Portland was hoping for.
Gonzaga leads the conference with a +5.4
rebounding margin, but Portland is right
behind the 'Zags, at +5.
A little mental fatigue, combined with Portland's
penchant for being able to keep games close,
and the hefty impost, lean us toward the
Pilots, the 22.5-point underdog in the BetUS
NCAAB batting odds.
