MLB Baseball Betting Free Picks - Marlins at Phillies
While the
young Florida Marlins, (30-22, 33-19
RL) have surprised the entire National
League as well as their sports betting
faithful with their impressive start
to the 2008 regular season – and
have done absolutely nothing to make
gamblers or baseball betting fans think
they are not a legitimate contender for
the NL Pennant this season, the Marlins
are now looking in their rear-view mirror
in a big way at the hard-charging Philadelphia
Phillies, (31-24, 25-30 RL) who enter
tonight’s online wagering matchup
riding a season-high four-game winning
streak that was punctuated by Thursday’s
6-1 win which completed their emphatic
sweep of the beleaguered Colorado Rockies.
The Phillies
can take over first place in the NL
East for the first time this season
by beating the Marlins who have dropped
each of their last two games to the
New York Mets, including Thursday’ 7-6
loss in extra innings.

Philadelphia
has been getting some quality pitching
from their entire staff, but it is
the team’s scorching offense
that has led its impressive winning streak
by scoring 48 runs over their last four
games, including 35 runs in back-to-back
contests against the Houston Astros and
Rockies.
"It's obviously a good lineup," said
Phillies outfielder Geoff Jenkins, who
is a blistering 6-for-12 with two home
runs and six RBI in his last three games. "It's
fun to be a part of. We can basically
put anyone in there and get the job done."
Phillies
all-star second baseman Chase Utley
also hit his major league-leading 17th
home run Wednesday but Philadelphia
may need as many runs as it can get entering
tonight’s baseball betting matchup
with inconsistent right-hander Brett
Myers (2-6, 5.79) taking the mound.

Myers has
been downright awful lately, going
0-5 with a 6.92 ERA in his last seven
starts including four consecutive losses
in which he’s posted a high,
8.02 ERA.
Myers allowed
four runs on eight hits while walking
four batters in six innings of Philadelphia’s
4-3 loss last Friday.
"Right now, things just aren't
going good for him," Phillies manager
Charlie Manuel told the team's official
Web site. "Luck definitely counts
in this game and he's not getting any.
He'll come out of it."
The Marlins also boast one of the best
second baseman in the majors, as Dan
Uggla is batting .307 with 16 home runs.
Florida will counter by handing the
ball to former Philadelphia 76ers forward,
Mark Hendrickson, (7-2, 4.14) just one
of 11 major leaguers to play in both,
the NBA and MLB.
The veteran
lefty was also rocked in his last start,
allowing five runs on a season-high
nine hits but managed to pick up a
victory despite his poor performance
as the Blue Jays scored 8 runs to back
Hendrickson in the team’s 8-6 victory
over the San Francisco Giants.
Hendrickson’s
only career start against Philadelphia
on July 17, last season resulted in
a huge loss as Hendrickson was tagged
for seven runs on 11 hits while lasting
just three innings in a 15-3 loss.
Marlins’ second
baseman Dan Uggla is 1-for-9 with five
strikeouts in his last two games, but
has knocked Myers senseless in his
career, going 7-for-18 (.389) with
two homers and a triple.
Here
is a look at tonight’s key
trends followed by my MLB Betting Picks.
The Marlins
are 8-2 in Hendrickson’s
last ten starts on grass.
The Marlins
are 4-1 in Hendrickson’s
last five starts as an underdog of +110
to +150.
The Phillies are 3-13 in Myers' last
16 starts on grass.
The Phillies are 1-5 in Myers' last
six starts vs. a team with a winning
record.
The Under
is 4-0 in Hendrickson’s
last four starts as an underdog.
The Under is 10-2 in Myers' last 12
starts after allowing two runs or less
in their previous game.
The Under is 4-1 in the last five meetings
in Philadelphia.
The Under is 4-1 in Myers' last five
starts vs. Marlins.
Analysis:
Two mediocre pitchers and one red-hot
offense equal another Philadelphia
victory – unless Myers somehow
manages to blow it. Take the Phillies,
who are starting to heat up in a big
way, to win their fifth straight game
tonight.
