Major League Baseball Betting - San Francisco at Arizona
Things sure have changed for NL West
rivals San Francisco Giants, (22-31,
29-24 RL) and Arizona Diamondbacks, (30-23,
26-26 RL) in the past ten days.
Since May 20, the struggling Giants
have won six of eight games, getting
some solid pitching performances in the
process, while the Diamondbacks, one
of the best teams in either league all
season, have fallen apart somewhat, losing
seven of nine overall, including two
straight to the Giants in this three-game
sports betting series.

Now, after
pounding the D-Backs 11-3 on Wednesday
night, scoring six runs off Arizona
starter Doug Davis, the Giants will
turn to high-priced left-handed veteran
Barry Zito, (1-8, 5.65 ERA) to pick
up where he left off in his last start
after serving a brief stint in the
team’s bullpen after an atrocious
start to the 2008 season.
Zito, the American League Cy Young winner
in 2002, limited the Florida Marlins
to one run on three hits in 6 2/3 innings
on Friday for his first win of the season.

"I think it was good to take a
good, hard look at myself in the mirror
and ask myself, what am I going to do
about this situation?" Zito said. "It's
just going out and being aggressive and
being myself."
"We raised expectations with our
start in April (20-8), but you aren't
going to win 20 games every month," Arizona
manager Bob Melvin told his team's official
Web site. "It's not that easy."
Arizona will try to end their baseball
betting losing streak by countering with
their own left-handed veteran Cy Young
winner in 44-year-old Randy Johnson,
(4-1, 4.03) who has won each of his last
four starts, the last two in commanding
fashion as he has allowed just one run
over 13 innings. Johnson has 4,663 strikeouts
in his Hall of Fame-bound career and
needs just ten more to surpass disgraced
former major-leaguer Roger Clemens for
second place on the all-time list behind
Nolan Ryan
"I don't put a lot of credence
in that," Johnson said. "If
you don't win the ballgame, it doesn't
matter."
Here
is a look at tonight’s key
sports betting trends followed by my
MLB Betting Picks.
The Giants
are 8-23 in Zito’s
last 31 starts on grass.
The Giants
are 2-6 in Zito’s last
eight starts vs. National League West.
The Diamondbacks
are 4-0 in Johnson’s
last four starts as a home favorite.
The Diamondbacks
are 4-0 in Johnson’s
last four starts following a team loss
in their previous game.
The Over
is 5-1 in Zito’s last
six road starts vs. a team with a winning
record.
The Over
is 4-1-1 in Johnson’s
last six starts as a home favorite.
The Diamondbacks
are 4-1 in Johnson’s
last five home starts vs. Giants.
The Under
is 4-1-1 in Johnson’s
last six home starts vs. Giants.
Analysis:
While the Giants are swinging the bats
much better than the Diamondbacks,
I think Johnson is going to pull off
another one of his ‘Big Unit’ performances
while shutting down the Giants long enough
for the Diamondbacks to avoid the broom
in this matchup.
