NFL Football Betting Action - Oakland at Jacksonville
NOTABLE STAT: Oakland has given up 4.7
yards per rush this season
KEY NFL FOOTBALL
BETTING TRENDS: Jacksonville has covered
its last six games; Oakland is 6-13 ATS
in its last 19 games
The Oakland
Raiders (4-10 SU, 6-8 ATS) may be breaking
in a new quarterback - the #1 choice
in the 2007 NFL draft - when they visit
Municipal Stadium in Jacksonville (grass)
to take on the Jaguars (10-4 SU & ATS)
in an NFL game set for 1 PM ET kickoff
on Sunday.
In the BetUS NFL football betting odds,
the Jaguars are listed at -13.5, with the
total posted at 38.5 points.
Here are some of the NFL football betting
trends and stats relative to this matchup:

* OAK has played five of its last seven
road games OVER the total
* JAX has covered its last six games

* The last three meetings have gone UNDER
the total
It looks
like JaMarcus Russell could get his first
NFL start in this one, or at the very
least his first extended playing time.
And some might have been wondering what
coach Lane Kiffin had been waiting for,
considering that Josh McCown had another
lackluster effort, the latest of many,
on Sunday against the Colts, completing
just 13 passes for 94 yards. The weather
ought to be warm enough for Russell, after
Kiffin deliberately kept him out of the
Green Bay game due to the cold environs.
You've got to believe the learning curve
has been a little steep for Russell, or
else he would have been in there earlier.
And let's not forget that in his career
at LSU, Russell had tremendous success
against the lesser clubs but often had
mistake-ridden outings against the better
programs. Jacksonville is headed for the
AFC playoffs, so it's fair to say the Jags
are one of the better "programs." Whether
it's Russell or McCown in action, you better
believe the Jaguars are going to stack
the line to stop the most dependable offensive
player Oakland has - running back Justin
Fargas (1009 yards) - and make the quarterback
throw.
And speaking
of making that quarterback throw, David
Garrard had what has to be regarded as
a breakout game against Pittsburgh. Yes,
he threw his second interception of the
season, but also had three touchdown
passes in the inclement weather. And
you can't say enough about the Jacksonville
running game; these guys scampered for
224 rushing yards against Pittsburgh's
defense, which was rated #1 in the NFL.
So they naturally want to shove it down
the opponent's throat. Fred Taylor (279
yards in last two weeks), who has been
snubbed out of the Pro Bowl throughout
his career, received the snub of all snubs
this season, and should be looking to make
the proverbial "statement." Oakland
is inviting enough; even though the Raiders
surrendered just 58 yards on the ground
against Indianapolis last week, they have
given up 4.7 yards a pop for the season.
And nine running backs have topped the
100-yard mark against them.
Jacksonville has once again become a very
difficult place to play. The Jags have
lost two home games, this is true, but
the Jaguars are allowing only 15 points
per game there, with only one opponent
- the Colts - scoring more than 17. We
don't know what the future holds for Oakland
coach Kiffin, but this Sunday will not
be pleasant. We'll lay the lumber with
Jacksonville, the 13.5-point favorite in
the BetUS NFL betting odds.
