NFL Winners - Take
it or Leave it: Week 9
You’re
back on my wagon right? If not, you should
be!
I had a couple
of rough weeks this football season but
I’ve more than made up
for them over the past month. I’m
so hot right now that I don’t understand
how the keys on the keyboard aren’t
melting as I type this.
Nonetheless,
I don’t get paid to
wonder about nonsense, I get paid to write
to it. And I especially enjoy writing after
a winning week, so you know I’ve
really enjoyed writing my piece each of
the last four weeks.
I haven’t lost my Pick of the Week
in over a month, going 3-0-1 in that stretch.
Last week, I rode the Raiders to victory.
Even though they were getting 7 ½ points,
the public didn’t like the Raiders
and they paid.
By contrast,
I got paid last week and I’ve been
getting paid a lot lately as the record
for my weekly favorite is now 5-2-1 through
eight weeks.
The game that has my eye this week features
the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs.
The Packers, 6-1, head to Missouri with
a significantly better record than the
4-3 Chiefs, but the Packers are two-point
underdogs.
That line has the public going nuts for
Green Bay, with 80% of bettors laying money
down on the Brett Favre-led Pack.
Not so fast
though. Kansas City has won four of their
last five games, they’re
4-1-1 against the spread in the last six
games and they always play tough at Arrowhead
Stadium.
What makes Kansas City worth a pick this
week? To start, running back Larry Johnson
has rushed for over 100 yards in three
of the last four games.
Johnson’s early season struggles
contributed to the 1-3 start the Chiefs
had to the season. As he turned things
around, the Chiefs did the same. The Packers’ defense,
ranked 11th in the league against the run,
is giving up just under 100 yards per game
but we’ll see how they fare against
a hot and well-rested Larry Johnson.
Kansas City had last week off while Green
Bay visits Arrowhead on a short work week
after a big victory in Denver last Monday
night.
The Chiefs week off will do everyone good.
The coaches have extra time to work on
the game plan, quarterback Damon Huard
can rest up and so can rookie wide receiver
Dwayne Bowe.
Rookies have
a tendency to fade in the second half
of an NFL Season but the Chiefs are hoping
that doesn’t happen with
Bowe. The 6’2” receiver out
of LSU has been everything the Chiefs hoped
for and more when they drafted him last
summer.
Bowe leads all wide receivers on the team
with 499 receiving yards and his three
touchdown receptions match the number of
TDs by tight end Tony Gonzalez. This kid
is the real deal.
Free Pick: And
taking the Chiefs at -2 is the sweetest
deal you’ll find on the board this
Sunday. Take it or Leave it.

I say can, and likely will, blow up in
