Football Betting - New York Giants vs.
Detroit Lions
New York Giants
(6-3) vs. Detroit Lions (6-3)
Sunday, November 18th --- Ford Field,
Detroit --- 1:00pm EST
Opening NFL
Betting Line: Detroit
Lions -1 (50)
Preview
The Giants hit the road after a miserable
home loss to Dallas, to face another team
vying for an NFC Wildcard spot. The Detroit
Lions have been a pleasant surprise this
year, but are showing signs of being a
one-dimensional football team. They ran
for -18 rushing yards last game, and somehow
still managed to get a rushing touchdown
out of Kevin Jones. Can Eli Manning return
to form against the Lions, or will Kitna
and the boys steal the show at Ford Field?
NYG Offense vs. Detroit Defense
The Giants were simply outmatched against
the Cowboys last weekend, and there is
no reason to believe that the Detroit defense
will make them look inept again. The passing
defense in Detroit is horrific, and gives
up 256.7 yards per game. The rushing defense
is decent, but teams usually decide to
beat them through the air because that
is where they are most vulnerable.
Eli Manning has not been deathly efficient
through the air, and the Giants aerial
attack only averages 196.0 yards per game.
But that is in large part due to Brandon
Jacobs leading a rushing assault that averages
a whopping 134.2 yards per game. Striking
that offensive balance will be essential
for the Giants as they try to turn their
season around and gain the upper hand in
the Wildcard race.
Detroit Offense vs. NYG Defense
Dallas proved that New York is deficient
when it comes to covering the pass, and
that means big trouble for the team from
the Big Apple. Detroit passes for 256.7
yards per game behind Jon Kitna and his
stable of reliable receivers. Roy Williams
will be in one-on-one coverage with Sam
Madison plenty of times, and that is a
matchup that Detroit must exploit if it
hopes to win this game.
But the rushing game is a concern. Somehow,
the Lions only managed -18 rush yards last
week against Arizona, and the front-seven
for New York is much stiffer. Kitna has
a quick release and rarely panics, but
the Giants and Osi Umenyiora love to get
pressure on the quarterback. It should
be another long day for the rushing game
in Detroit, which only gains 82.7 yards
per game.
NFL Betting Trends
-NYG are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games
-NYG are 6-3 SU in their last 9 games against
Detroit
-total has gone OVER in 4 of the NYG last
5 games against Detroit
-Detroit is 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 home
games
Final Verdict
If the Giants are smart they will utilize
their ground game to take control of the
clock and keep Kitna off the field. Respect
him or not, the Lions are still averaging
24.6 points per game. Brandon Jacobs will
have to deal with Shaun Rogers all day,
but he is as big and bad as they come and
will able to pound through the tackles
for yards.

Picks: NYG 27 Detroit 24
This is a
must-win game for both teams because
a loss could be the deciding factor in
the Wildcard race. Detroit is undefeated
at home, but the Giants are a strong road
team going 3-1 SU on the road. The savvy
betting investor won’t overlook the
balanced attack of the Giants in this game,
and will take New York in this pick ‘em
game.
