FOX tabbed
this week’s Cowboys-Giants
game as the “NFC Game of the Year” in
promos this past Sunday. While that may
be a bit of an overstatement, it is an
important game, and the first of a host
of big contests that Dallas will play the
rest of the way.
In terms
of current records, five of the Cowboys’ L8
games are against the other Top 5 NFC
teams. Separated by just a game in the
standings, the Giants can force a tie
in the NFC East with a win, or possibly
give Dallas insurmountable control of
the division with a loss.
Fortunately,
the G-Men have both rest and home field
advantage on their side. They are also
playing every bit as well as their hated
rivals, having gone 6-0 SU & 5-1
ATS in their L6. New York is 11-5-1 ATS
hosting Dallas.
The Cowboys continue to work as the leader
of the NFC, but chinks in the armor have
been exposed, evidenced by their 1-2 ATS
over their last three, not including Sunday
night. The offense has been prolific, led
by the rise of QB Tony Romo. He has loudmouth
WR Terrell Owens on the hush with happiness
while RBs Marion Barber and Julius Jones
are working as one of the most potent rushing
tandems in the NFL.
The defense harbors injury concerns in
the backfield, but the front seven is strong
and will push the most talented of offensive
lines.
The Giants are on the rise as QB Eli Manning
is starting to represent a new face of
success in New York. Unsung contributions
from RB Brandon Jacobs have rounded an
offensive effort few have matched in recent
weeks (4-1 ATS in their last five games).
Of course, the opposition in those games
has been lackluster to say the least and
now the defense will be asked to lead the
charge against the juggernaut of the NFC
East. The defensive line holds the key
to success for the Giants, now and moving
forward.
Keys to the
Game – This is Dallas’ second
NFC East game in a row and over the years
they have shone brightly, going 11-4 ATS
after competing with another division foe.
The Cowboys have to mask injuries in the
secondary against the Giants’ passing
game that runs hot and cold.
The Dallas O-Line will have to come up
big versus the significantly improved front
seven for New York. The Giants have two
weeks to prepare for revenge with the Cowboys
and want to continue running the ball effectively.
This is a dangerous time for the G-Men
as cold November winds have meant a precipitous
drop in play with 20-39 ATS mark in November
games since 1992.
Trends
- The NY Giants are 11-5-1 ATS at Giants
Stadium against Dallas.
- Dallas is 11-3 ATS after playing the
Eagles.
