College Football Betting - Texas Bowl: Horned Frogs vs. Cougars
Dec.
28 -- Texas Bowl Preview at Houston, TCU
(7-5) vs. Houston (8-4), 8 p.m. (NFL Network)
The TCU Horned Frogs and the Houston Cougars
have a lot in common: redshirt freshmen QBs,
backfields loaded with talent and great sets
of receivers. What is the difference between
the two, for those who bet on college bowls
and would like to bet on this game in the
BetUS sportsbook? The difference is that
TCU has a much better and more consistent
pass rush than does Houston. The fact that
Houston has faced many issues with keeping
defenders away from their quarterback will
not do them any favors in this game against
the Horned Frogs.
TCU Horned
Frogs –4 vs. Houston Cougars

On offense,
Houston running back Anthony Alridge is
at the tail end of a great year. He has
been getting 20-plus carries per game,
averaging an exciting 6.4 yards per carry
and has amassed almost 1,600 yards while
scoring 14 times on the ground. In Houston’s
last eight games, he has rushed for over
100 yards seven times. He will, however,
have his work cut out for him going up against
TCU LB Jason Philips, who is a very good
open field tackler who never quits on a play.
Philips has the interior defense to keep
blockers away, so he will be able to key
in on the running game and could limit Alridge’s
success to the point where Houston may have
to rely more on their passing game than they
might like.
Texas Bowl @ Reliant Stadium: 8 PM, Friday,

Cougars quarterback Case Keenum will have
his decision-making ability sorely tested
by the pass rush of the Horned Frogs. Although
his ability to take care of the ball has
gotten better as the season wore on, Houston
has had problems holding the pocket. Facing
a tough defensive front, especially on the
perimeter where TCU Des Chase Ortiz and Tommy
Blake will be waiting to explode, means Keenum
will have to be fast and decisive with his
throws. The Cougars will most likely plan
the game around quick, three-step drops to
try to get Keenum into a rhythm.
This type of game plan should allow the
Cougars to stay within range of the Horned
Frogs, but their issues with pass protection
will most likely be the difference in this
game. An extra sack or two to stop a drive
will be all TCU needs to cover this four-point
NCAA football betting spread.
