NCAAF Meineke Bowl Betting - Connecticut vs. Wake Forest
Two college football upstarts meet up in
the Meineke Bowl on Sunday when the Connecticut
Huskies take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
After the beating that NCAAF betting fans
took during the year of the upset, a successful
bowl season may be a must to get back in
the black.
The Huskies
went from a 4-8 mess last season to a surprising
9-3, which included winning a share of
the Big East title. Connecticut ended the
season on a sour note after getting blasted
by West Virginia 66-21. Despite the loss
the Huskies shared the Big East title with
the Mountaineers, thanks to the Pittsburgh
Panthers’ shocking upset of West Virginia.
Connecticut’s
offense took off behind quarterback Tyler
Lorenzen. The junior QB passed for 2,269
yards with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions
during the season. Running backs Andre
Dixon and Donald Brown combined for more
than 1,500 yards with 11 touchdowns. The
UConn defense was also strong all season
and ranked second in the Big East, allowing
18.6 points per game.
Wake Forest is headed to a bowl game in
consecutive years for the first time in school
history. Quarterback Riley Skinner continued
his rapid progression while passing for 1,936
yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Freshman running back Josh Adams was a pleasant
surprise with 887 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
Wideout Kenneth Moore proved to be a double
threat with a team-high 899 receiving yards
and five touchdowns, as well as 318 rushing
yards and three touchdowns on only 41 carries.
The Huskies
last (and only) bowl game appearance was
back in 2004 in the Motor City Bowl. Connecticut
defeated Toledo 39-10 in that game. The
Demon Deacons played in last year’s
Orange Bowl, which they lost to Louisville
24-13.
Bettors do have some recent history to analyze
when making their picks for this game. The
Demon Deacons and Huskies met up just last
season when Wake Forest topped Connecticut
24-13 as a 6.5-point underdog on the NCCAF
betting odds. In the Meineke Bowl rematch,
the Demon Deacons are a slim 2.5-point favorite.
