NCAA Football Bowl Betting - Pirates vs. Broncos
Dec.
23 -- Hawaii Bowl Preview at Honolulu,
East Carolina (7-5) vs. Boise State (10-2),
8 p.m. (ESPN)
Preview
The
upstarts from Boise State won’t
be making any massive upsets in the BCS Bowl
Series this season, but a trip to Hawaii
to duke it out in the Hawaii Bowl is hardly
a bad way to end the season. The East Carolina
Pirates sail to the sunny island state as
double-digit road dogs and will have to take
on one of the most prolific offenses in the
country.
East Carolina Offense vs. Boise State Defense
The Pirates will have to attack a defense
that only gives up 20.0 points per game,
and pins rushing attacks to the mat with
117.2 yards against on average. East Carolina
leans heavily on running-back Chris Johnson,
who averages 5.8 yards per game. However,
the front-four for Boise destroys opposing
front lines and holds opponents to 3.4 yards
per carry. They love busting up the backfield
for losses.
The tandem of Rob Kass and Patrick Pinkney
have been decent in a rotating quarterback
system averaging 206.6 yards per game between
them. The Boise State secondary is fairly
stiff and only gives up 211.6 yards per game.
Boise State will focus all of their attention
on shutting down the enigmatic Johnson, who
has an amazingly varied skill set and is
as versatile as they come. If Johnson fails
to get going early, Boise State will roll
in this one.
Boise State Offense vs. East Carolina Defense
Everyone is aware of how insanely unpredictable
the Boise State offense can be. The Broncos
average 283.6 yards per game through the
air and a dazzling 193.1 yards on the ground.
The defense for the Pirates is atrocious.
They allow 290.2 pass yards, 146.3 rushing
yards and 29.8 points per game.
The Broncos average 42.8 points per game
and will have their way with this paltry
defense. The offensive line will be the key
to Boise State as they win the battle in
the trenches, and the war on the scoreboard.
NCAAF Betting Trends
-East Carolina is 6-2 ATS in its last 8
games
-East Carolina is 8-17 SU in its last 25
road games
-Boise State is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games
-Boise State is 23-2 SU in its last 25 games
-total has
gone UNDER in 4 of Boise State’s
last 5 games
Final Verdict
Anyone wily enough out there to think that
Boise State is going to sleep against East
Carolina is nuts. On the national stage in
prime time, Boise State will romp all over
a listless East Carolina defense as Chris
Johnson gets shut down by a fast and determined
Broncos defense. Bet happily on the Broncos
despite a massive spread as a present to
yourself.
