NCAAF Wagering: Duke Blue Devils (+6.5) vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-6.5)
This is it, kids! The game that will really
tell us how bad the Notre Dame Fighting
Irish are!
Can you think of a better game for the
Fighting Irish to test their mettle than
against one of the worst college football
teams of all time? Before their game versus
Northwestern, the Blue Devils had lost
something like 400 games in a row. Okay,
maybe not that many, but they did lose
a lot of games and their streak only ended
because they found a way, and I still do
not know how, to beat the Northwestern
Wildcats.
The makes the Blue Devils football record
this year 1 and 9. 1 and 9!
Notre Dame,
meanwhile, is a much more impressive
1 and 9 this year. Wait…that’s
the same record! Here’s the deal
with Notre Dame:
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish is 3 and
9 against the spread in their last 12 games.
One of those 3 against the spread games
occurred when they played the hapless,
terrible, UCLA Bruins. They were 21 points
underdogs in that one and found a way to
win. Another one of those against the spread
games was against Boston College where
they only lost by 13 points. They were
about a 27 point underdog in that game.
Now, the
Irish have to give up points against
the Duke Blue Devils. But, it’s
the Blue Devils?
I know, the
only reason to really bet on the Blue
Devils is if their running around in
shorts in an air-conditioned arena. They
won’t be doing that.
They will be chasing the Notre Dame Fighting
Irish around a grass field.
Of course,
the truth is that if the Irish are anything
close to what they are supposed to be
on paper, there is no excuse in this
game. They should win this one easily.
Then again, Northwestern shouldn’t
have lost to the Blue Devils either.
Maybe, that leads me to believe that Notre
Dame just is really that bad. Yes, worse
than the Duke Blue Devils. Why? Because
Duke only lost by 3 points to Navy. They
also only lost by 5 points to Wake Forest
and 10 points to Miami.
What that means is that the Blue Devils
will stay in this game. When two of the
worst teams in college football face off
against each other always, always, always
take the points.
