NCAAF Bowl Betting - Eagles vs. Spartans
Preview
The Boston College Eagles soared to the
top of the mountain by ranking tops in the
nation at one point, then came crashing down
to planet Earth. Now they face the Michigan
State Spartans, who have been held out of
bowl consideration since 2003, in the Florida
Citrus Bowl. The Eagles still have plenty
to play for, especially with quarterback
Matt Ryan trying to impress the NFL brass
as he heads in to the 2008 NFL Draft.
Boston College Offense vs. Michigan State
Defense
When the Eagles transitioned to a pass-heavy
focus in their offense this season, Matt
Ryan shined as one of the most talented and
gifted passers in the game. His rocket-arm
propelled the Eagles to a passing average
of 331.8 yards per game while opening up
the scoring to average 29.7 points per game.
However, aside from his first game against
Virginia Tech this season, Ryan has buckled
under pressure, and he has never had more
at stake than this game. It will be the last
real-game situation in which he can make
a positive impression on the NFL scouts who
will be keeping an eagle eye on him.
The Spartans
betting faithful are very well acquainted
with defensive-end Ryan Purvis who will
be drawing some wicked coverage from the
Boston College offensive line. Purvis is
a dynamite pass rusher, who bursts off
the line with unbelievable force. It will
be up to Purvis to disrupt Ryan’s timing
and help a stout Spartan secondary which
allows 217.3 passing yards per game.
Michigan State Offense vs. Boston College
Defense
As good as Javon Ringer and Jehuu Caulcrick
are as tailbacks in the Michigan State offense,
the Spartans betting investor should pay
attention to a glaring stat for Boston College
first. They allow a paltry 65.6 rushing yards
per game and play with vicious pride and
hunger for the ball-carrier.
Quarterback Brian Hoyer threw for 2,594
yards, 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions
as they Spartans averaged only 225.9 passing
yards per game. The Eagles will get an injection
of speed and agility back in to the secondary
with corner-back DeJaun Tribble who will
help shut down the unimpressive passing attack
of the Spartans.
NCAA Football Betting Trends

Final Verdict
While Boston College stumbled towards the
end of the season, Matt Ryan has had plenty
of time since the ACC Championship loss to
Virginia Tech on December 1st. The Eagles
betting investors should rest assured that
Ryan has gotten his head out of the mud,
cleared his vision, and dissected this secondary
during tape sessions. The defense will take
a load of pressure off of Ryan to produce,
but with his NFL draft status on the line,
bet on Ryan to come through after having
three weeks of rest to prep for this matchup.
