LAST POINTSPREAD RESULT: Last week Clemson
ran up 412 yards of offense in beating
defending ACC champion Wake Forest, 44-10,
covering as a 9.5-point favorite. Boston
College suffered its second straight loss
last weekend at the hands of Maryland,
losing 42-35 as a 6.5-point favorite.
HEAD-TO-HEAD college football betting
trends:
* BC is 4-0-1 SU in the series
* BC has won and covered the past two
meetings
* The last two meetings have been decided
by a total of four points
LAST MEETING: Last year Boston College
won a 34-33 thriller in overtime as a one-point
underdog. It was BC's second straight overtime
win over Clemson.
ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE:
The Good News -- Matt Ryan has thrown
for 836 yards in his last two games. Last
week in the loss to Maryland he completed
33 of 56 passes for 421 yards and three
TD's. Ryan is still somewhat in the mix
for the Heisman Trophy. Boston College
is second in the country against the run,
allowing just 2.3 yards per attempt and
just under 66 yards a game. The Eagles
are rated #18 by both the USA Today and
Associated Press poll.
The Bad News -- Ryan threw two INT's against
Maryland and one of his picks against Florida
State was run back for a touchdown. Boston
College was without three defensive starters
for last week's game. Safety Marty Bowman
is still out, while linebackers Jo-Lonn
Dunbar and Tyronne Pruitt are questionable.
With its two straight losses, Boston College
is now out of the BCS Standings.
BOSTON COLLEGE TRENDS:
* BC has covered five straight as an underdog
* BC is 10-3 ATS in its last 13 as a road
dog
* BC has won 13 of its last 19 road games
SU
* BC has played six of its nine games
OVER the total this year
* BC has played five of its last six road
games UNDER the total
ABOUT CLEMSON:
The Good News -- Clemson can clinch the
ACC's Atlantic Division title with a win.
The Tigers are ranked #16 in the USA Today
poll, #15 by the Associated Press, and
is now #15 in the BCS Standings. Cullen
Harper has been an explosive QB, tossing
31 TD passes against just five interceptions,
and C.J. Spiller, who teams with James
Davis to form a dynamic backfield, has
run a kickoff back for a touchdown in each
of the last two games. On defense, the
Tigers, with the nation's fifth-ranked
stop unit, have allowed just 262 yards
a game over its last five.
The Bad News -- Clemson has allowed 27
quarterback sacks. The team's last win
over Boston College was back in 1958. Of
course, that's a little deceiving, as the
teams have only met five times (Clemson
is 0-4-1 SU in the series)
CLEMSON TRENDS:
* CLEMSON has covered four straight games
* CLEMSON has won five of its last six
home games SU
* CLEMSON is 15-5 ATS in its last 20 home
finales
* CLEMSON has played four of its last
five games OVER the total
Free Pick: CONCLUSION:
Clemson is probably the best team nobody's
talked about. Tommy Bowden's team can really
move the football; Harper has quietly had
a sensational season, and the Davis/Spiller
combo is one of the best in the country.
It was obvious that after losing its national
championship hopes, BC was caught napping
by Maryland last week. This time they should
have some focus, and even with Clemson fired
up looking for double revenge, Ryan, along
with BC's staunch run defense, has enough
to keep this one very tight. We'll take the
points with Boston College, the 7.5-point
underdog in the BetUS college football betting
odds.
