College Football Odds: Sun Devils (-7.5) vs. Bruins (+7.5)
UCLA has
become a sad, sad team this year. The
losses keep piling up; the coaching staff
has no idea what to do on either offense
or defense, and the kids look like they’ve
packed it in.
The Bruins
have lost to Arizona and Washington State
in their last two games. That’s
Arizona, not Arizona State, and Washington
State, not Washington. That makes UCLA
a loser in this game no matter what this
trend says:
The UCLA Bruins are 8 and 2 against the
spread in their last 10 conference games.
The ASU Sun
Devils will win this game, okay? There’s no doubt about it.
Coach Dennis Erickson is too good to let
his number 9 ranked team dwell on their
loss to the Oregon Ducks for too long.
The Sun Devils are in a great position
to play on New Years’ Day in a BCS
game, maybe the Fiesta, and that means
that Coach Erickson will have his guys
ready to kick some Bruin butt.
The question
isn’t whether or not
ASU wins; the question is whether or not
ASU covers the spread.
UCLA is at home, mind you, and the above
trend points to the Bruins doing very well
against fellow Pac-10 teams - - against
the spread at least.
That makes me pause some before throwing
my lunch money behind the Sun Devils.
Okay, the pause is over. The Sun Devils
should rack the Bruins in this one. The
Devils possess a strong run game and a
strong pass game. Furthermore, if the Bruins
had trouble scoring against the Arizona
Wildcats and the Washington State Cougars,
they have no chance putting up the necessary
points versus that Arizona State Sun Devil
defense.
Oh, yes,
did I mention that UCLA has absolutely
no idea who is starting at quarterback?
I think it might be McLeod Bethel-Thompson
and, yes, that is his real name. Don’t
know him? Neither do I.

against the spread on the road versus the
UCLA Bruins.

in this game causing Bruins head coach,
