After facing off
in the 2006 Western Conference Finals, it
was expected that the Spurs and Mavericks
would – at some
point – be squaring off yet again in
the 2007 playoffs for the rights to the Championship.
But with Golden State in the way, that never
materialized.
Both teams will get at each other for the
first time this season and both are still
Western Conference contenders that are eyeing
the end-of-season prize.
Dallas is 3-0
at home this season, winning by an average
of 15 points per game. The Spurs, on the
other hand, have lost only one road contest – and one game overall – an
89-81 falter in Houston.
Over the last three seasons, the meetings
between the two teams have been tight. Dallas
has won and covered four out of the seven
times while San Antonio has the overall ATS
edge since 1996, posting a 31-28 record in
that span.
The Spurs are 51-54 ATS against winning
teams over the last three years while Dallas
is 57-43 in that same scenario. Dallas plays
well against their division and has covered
32 of the last 44 divisional games.
If you are looking at a total play, try
the over. 32 of the last 46 Mavericks games
have gone over where they have been a home
favorite by three points or less. 16 of the
last 28 games in this series have also gone
over the number.
Free Pick: Dallas -2.5
The Chicago
Bulls have won once this season – last
Thursday night against the Detroit Pistons.
Clearly, there’s problems in Chicago
land and if they continue to slide this way,
you might have to wonder if they will consider
a Kobe Bryant trade as the trade deadline
nears.
Now they face the streaking Suns, who have
won three straight and five of their last
six.
This series
hasn’t been so kind to
the Baby Bulls. They are only 7-for-20 in
the last 20 meetings and have only won twice
in Phoenix since 1996.
The Bulls don’t
fare well against the Pacific division.
They have covered only five of their last
21 games vs. that division.
Interestingly
enough, though, the Phoenix Suns have yet
to cover the spread this year in a game
versus a team with a losing record (0-4).
It isn’t just a problem for
this year – it has been a recurring
trend. In the last three years, they are
36-47 ATS vs losing teams and 163-207 since
1996.
It seems like
something is not right in Chicago but they
liked the TNT Thursday last week. Maybe
it’s because they know
they are on national TV and everyone is watching.
Free Pick: Chicago +9
