The Carolina Panthers are looking to get
back among the elite teams in the NFC after
suffering through an injury-ravaged 2006
season.
The St. Louis Rams are looking to build
on the 8-8 record they compiled last season
despite closing out the season with a dismal
second half.
Here is a look
at Sunday's Key
Trends followed by my Free NFL Picks.
Key Panthers Trends
The Panthers are 6-1-2 ATS in their last
9 games as a road underdog of 0.5-3.0.
The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last
5 games on Turf.
The Panthers are 20-6-2 ATS in their last
28 games as an underdog.
Key Rams Trends
The Rams are 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17
games in September.
The Rams are 8-18-1 ATS in their last 27
games as a favorite.
The Rams are 4-13-1 ATS in their last 18
games as a home favorite.Key Totals Trends
The Under is 10-1 in Panthers last 11 games
in Week 1.
The Over is 4-1 in Panthers last 5 games
overall.
The Over is 4-0 in Rams last 4 games on
Turf.
The Over is 4-0 in Rams last 4 vs. NFC.
Key Head-to-Head Trends
The Panthers are 4-0 ATS in their last
4 meetings.
The Home team is 5-1 ATS in their last
6 meetings.
The Panthers are 5-2 ATS in their last
7 meetings in St. Louis.
Carolina
Panthers:
(8-8 SU, 5-9-2 ATS, 7-9 O/U last season)
The Carolina Panthers have been a perennial
powerhouse in the NFC under head coach
John Fox but dropped out of the postseason
picture because of injuries, inconsistent
play – and
a lack of offensive firepower. New offensive
coordinator Jeff Davidson will open up
his playbook to improve the Panthers’ 24th
ranked offense and Carolina is stacked
at running back where three players will
see time this season. The Panthers also
added wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett but
still have numerous questions along the
offensive line.
St.
Louis Rams:
(8-8 SU, 9-7 ATS, 8-7-1 O/U last season).
The Rams had a solid season offensively
in Linehan’s system
and both, quarterback Marc Bulger and running
back Steven Jackson flourished. The majority
of the Rams’ problems came on the
defensive side of the football last year
desoite the fact that te Rams brought in
veteran defensive coordinator Jim Haslett
to take over their sub par unit. Instead
of adding veteran players, the Rams are
hoping young players like rookie DT Adam
Carriker and second-year CB Tye Hill will
become game-deciding playmakers.
Analysis: This
game is actually a tough call but I’m
going to go with the St. Louis Rams to
come up big against the Panthers and
defend their home-field with a season-opening
win.
